Acerca de esta escucha
Get ready to find some things you never expected to find in a book about wine. Things like regrets, migrant labor, war, financial crises, and post-apartheid economics. Things, too, like following a calling, doing something even though it makes no sense, and creating the life you imagine for yourself. For the people you'll meet in these 12 chapters, wine does so much more than quench thirst. Wine is how they express themselves to the world. It's how they put food on the table for their families. It's how they carve their niche. Sometimes, it's even their tool to fight repression and discrimination. Hungry for Wine is also a memoir about how the author went from simply liking the taste of wine, to tasting it every day, to writing about it 365 days a year, to traveling the world in search of the people and the stories in this book. Some people see the world in a grain of sand. Now, you can see it in a glass of wine. This book will change the way you look at wine. Forever.

One couple's inspiring memoir of healing a Rwandan village, raising a family near the old killing fields, and building a restaurant named Heaven. Newlyweds Josh and Alissa were at a party and received a challenge that shook them to the core: Do you think you can really make a difference? Especially in a place like Rwanda, where the scars of genocide linger and poverty is rampant? While Josh worked hard bringing food and health care to the country's rural villages, Alissa was determined to put their foodie expertise to work. The couple opened Heaven, a gourmet restaurant overlooking Kigali, which became an instant success.

This is the story of the world according to beer, a toast to flavors born of necessity and place - in Belgian monasteries, rundown farmhouses, and the basement nanobrewery next door. So pull up a barstool and raise a glass to 5,000 years of fermented magic.

An avid golfer with a demanding career in the greeting card business, Mike Keiser found a new calling on the authentic links courses of Scotland and Ireland. Seized by the beauty of the landscape and the holes running through it, he determined this was how golf was meant to be: inclusive, not private; played on foot, not riding a cart; the courses natural, neither lavish nor contrived. Vowing to transplant this experience to the States, Keiser entered the golf business and, ignoring the advice of experts, built a true links course in Oregon.

This is the story of four visionaries who profoundly shaped the world we live in today. Together, these women - linked not by friendship or field, but by their choice to break with convention - showed what one person speaking truth to power can do. Jane Jacobs fought for livable cities and strong communities; Rachel Carson warned us about poisoning the environment; Jane Goodall demonstrated the indelible kinship between humans and animals; and Alice Waters urged us to reconsider what and how we eat.

A few Wine related essays, Excessive introduction
The new author sounded like she was on the verge of tears for the first 2/3 of the book, which was very short given the extremely long dedications, introduction, and reading a description of the contents. I would’ve preferred just the essays.
