If you suspected your best friend, the person you were closest to in the whole world, was a murderer, what would you do? Would you confront her? Would you help keep her secret? Or would you begin to feel afraid? Most importantly, why don't you feel safe now that she's dead? From the author of The French Girl comes a novel full of secrets, suspense, and deadly twists.

Georgie, Lissa, and Bronwyn have been inseparable since dominating their college swim team; swimming has always been an escape from their own problems, but now their shared passion has turned deadly. How can it be true that Lissa, the strongest swimmer they know, drowned? Granted, there is something strange about Kanu Cove, where Lissa was last seen, swimming off the coast of the fabulous island resort she owned with her husband.

Lissa’s closest friends gather at the resort to honor her life, but Georgie and Bron can’t seem to stop looking over their shoulders. Danger lurks beneath the surface of the crystal-clear water, and even their luxurious private villas can’t help them feel safe. As the weather turns ominous, trapping the funeral guests together on the island, nobody knows who they can trust. Lissa’s death was only the beginning....

I don't know if I've just watched/read too many thrillers to the point where I truly don't think like the "average" person, or if books like these are truly predictable.

I grabbed this book as a part of my 2026 reading challenge. Not knowing anything about the author or the premise of the book, the title alone grabbed my attention. The cashier got a kick out of it as well. Anyway, I glanced thru a couple of pages and was pleased to know it wasn't truly a How To manual. I got through halfway and decided to download the audio because I was getting bored with the book. I wasn't looking for riveting, so to say, but I was hoping for page turning. While the audio version provided a voice, it was still "okay".

The one thing I was not expecting and I appreciated this part was the very end. In case there are some who still haven't read/listened and want to without spoilers, I won't say. I was just relieved that this person indeed grimy.

Somewhat predictable

I'd describe this as predictable and unimaginative. Every chance she had to think outside the box a little was avoided.

This is a typical friend with secrets get revenge trope. A friend dies, the rest get together and you learn they all have done immoral things. It trudges along giving you the details drop by drop. All that in an attempt to build the suspense, which was still meh. You can see when it's coming. A typical severe storm when it's time to go was laughable.

It's definitely a skip unless you just want to listen to something in the background.

Predictable
