A scenic shortcut turns into a road to hell.

Five friends searching for one last taste of adventure. A detour that isn't on any map. When their car mysteriously breaks down deep in the isolated Appalachian wilderness, their dream road trip curdles into a claustrophobic nightmare. The silence of the forest is heavy, broken only by the feeling of being watched.

The only sign of life is a creepy, dilapidated general store and its stoic, unsettling owner. Stranded and desperate, the friends soon discover they are not the first to take this road, and that the woods have a horrifying history—a boneyard of rusted-out cars serves as a graveyard for those who came before.

They are being herded. They are being hunted.

What they uncover is a predatory backwoods community with its own grim traditions, a place protected by an ancient, malevolent power. Their fight for survival becomes a desperate flight through a landscape designed to trap them, where every snapping twig could be a footstep and every shadow could be their last.

Perfect for fans of Stephen King's Desperation, Scott Smith's The Ruins, and films like The Hills Have Eyes and Wrong Turn. Horror on the Appalachian Holler is a gripping tale of psychological dread, folk horror, and the terrifying realization that sometimes, the oldest roads are the ones you should never take.

Like the simplicity yet gripping story. Nothing crazy, nothing out of the ordinary. Just a simple take that was easy to follow and had some chills

I didn’t like the narrator. I enjoyed the plot. It kept. Me interested to keep reading.

Was a little predictable if reader is familiar with Appalachian folk lore. Could have had more “meat” to build the climax.

Intense

For starters I really can’t stand virtual voice. It’s a true story killer. I guess it’s a foretaste of a world I hope I’m too dead to inhabit - a world where we’re treated to the literature of virtual authors. Since on Audible, these books tend to be free and I do like my Gothic Appalachian style, why not ? Here’s the thing about this one though. It’s a secluded holler where they don’t take kindly to outsiders - no sir ! And you can guess roughly what becomes of these outsiders. Fair enough. We all have our quirks. But if you hate outsiders so much, why is a fake sign continually posted to lure these same outsiders in ? This question is never once asked or answered.

Giant plot hole. Watch your step.
