When you poke the hornets' nest, ya better make dang sure you kill 'em all. If you don't, you're gonna suffer their wrath.

This fast-paced post-apocalyptic dystopian fiction series from author Bobby Akart (The Boston Brahmin series and the Prepping for Tomorrow series), has been hailed as a masterpiece of EMP survival fiction. Prepare to learn, as well as be entertained as The Blackout Series continues with Hornet's Nest.

Hornet's Nest, book five in The Blackout Series, tests the mettle of our characters. Will one success lead to devastation for them all? Is it possible for an unlikely group of heroes to band together to defeat an evil which had plagued a small community for decades? And if they are successful, how do you build a world shattered by the devastating aftereffects of a massive solar flare?

Note: this book does not contain strong language. It is intended to entertain and inform audiences of all ages, including teen and young adults. Although some scenes depict the realistic threat our nation faces from a devastating solar flare, and the societal collapse which will result in the aftermath, it does not contain graphic scenes typical of other books in the post-apocalyptic genre.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any more interesting, the series kicks off with nonstop action. As you weave through the separate lives of each of the characters, you can see the tension rising within their community and can't wait to find out what happens! Mr Farrell does a wonderful job in bringing the characters to life. ENJOY!!

Fantastic series!

It's time to kick the Hornet's Nest!! The people are fed up with Ma and her followers and decide that it's time to do something about it. The Ryman's never thought they would be part of a Civil War but they are in the thick of things here! Can they take back Savannah from Ma?

Things have finally come to a head at Shiloh Ranch and everyone decides it's time to take back their town. Ma and Junior have done too much to too many people and it's time they pay. I was so happy to see Alex shine in this one. She has really come into herself and grew up a lot in this one.

Plot wise, it was really fast paced and at times intense! The Civil War was building for along time and it finally exploded in this. I was at the edge of my seat throughout and devoured this! I was a little disappointed that the war wasn't a little more..... brutal though. I thought a few more people would have gotten hurt.

In all, a great continuation on the series and makes me eager to see the next one. The ending was killer though, I'm not a fan of cliff hangers and this one was one heck of a cliffhanger!! I need the next book ASAP!!!

John David Farrell was better in this one than the last as he seemed to have gotten a feel for the characters. He was easy to listen to and was clear and concise. I will have to check out more by him.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

Glad to see Alex shine!

What does John David Farrell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

John David had big shoes to fill and has held his own, while I don't agree with the choice it didn't take a way from the books at all. I would listen to him again.

Any additional comments?

i really love how bobby has tied the books in with each other and the story keeps moving, its really great to see how the main group of people have problems and can overcome and move on. I do not want to spoil the book by giving details of it. Its worth the read and you will come back and listen to it again at least 2 more times.

the books keep getting better and better!

Just another standout book by Bobby Akart. Holy cow can this guy write. Hornet's Nest is the continuation of the Blackout Series and I cannot believe how far the series and it's characters have come. As this book was finishing up, I thought back on the first book where the Ryman's first heard about the CME that would cause all the lights to go out. I can't believe just how far they've come and grown as characters.

Hornet's Nest takes place as a mini civil war breaks out between two families and their followers. But this battle isn't two sides of the same coin, it's a good vs evil fight with the Ryman family and everyone around Shiloh Ranch on the side of the good.

The story itself started fast and stayed fast-paced throughout, but ended with a cliffhanger. At least I know that the next book is in production for audio and should be out within a month. I can't wait to see what happens!

As I mentioned above, the characters have grown from book to book. I really feel like I know the Ryman's personally and that I've been watching their daughter grow up before my eyes. She really is an awesome main character and is easily one of the most memorable characters I've ever read.

The entire community is also one of the more memorable post-apocalyptic families and communities that I've ever read about. It's funny writing that, because it feels like I'm writing my final review of the series, but there's still one more book.

Overall, if you've been keeping up with the Blackout series, you will not be disappointed by this book at all. It really had a lot in it, and it felt like more happened in Hornet's Nest than the other books (until you remember just what happens in those books too). Akart is really a master of his craft and I cannot wait to see how this story ends.

I was given a free copy of this book, it has not affected my review in any way.

This is another well written, action packed book in The Blackout Series! I’m loving the new characters, the connections they have to our main characters, and watching Alex bloom into a leader. Bobby Akart is definitely keeping the momentum going in the series; I finished the book in one day. I truly enjoyed listening to it. John David Farrell does a great job narrating the book.
