Resumen del Editor

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The first novel in the beloved Big Stone Gap series, now a major motion picture written and directed by Adriana Trigiani, starring Ashley Judd, Patrick Wilson, Whoopi Goldberg, John Benjamin Hickey, Jane Krakowski, Anthony LaPaglia, and Jenna Elfman

“Delightfully quirky . . . chock-full of engaging, oddball characters and unexpected plot twists.”—People (Book of the Week)

It's 1978, and Ave Maria Mulligan is the thirty-five-year-old self-proclaimed spinster of Big Stone Gap, a sleepy hamlet in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. She’s also the local pharmacist, the co-captain of the Rescue Squad, and the director of The Trail of the Lonesome Pine, the town’s long-running Outdoor Drama. Ave Maria is content with her life—until, one fateful day, her past opens wide with the revelation of a long-buried secret that will alter the course of her life. Before she knows it, Ave Maria is fielding marriage proposals, trying to claim her rightful inheritance, and planning the trip of a lifetime to Italy—one that will change her view of the world and her own place in it forever.

Millions of readers and listeners around the world have fallen in love with the small town of Big Stone Gap, nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, and its self-proclaimed spinster. Full of wit and wonder, hilarity and heart, Big Stone Gap is a gem of a book, and one that you will share with friends and family for years to come.

Warm, Familiar, and Funny

I have read, and loved, other Adriana Trigani books..but having grown up in SW Virginia, I had put off reading this book, fearing that the "hillbilly" aspect of the area would be emphasized. I was delightfully surprised to find the book to be as comfortable and familiar as an old coat that's been packed in the back of the closet. I found myself looking for excuses to be in the car - and to hear more of Ave Maria's story. I can't wait to listen to the next one!

Big Stone Gap

Interesting characters, good "country folk". The narrator was wonderful and gave each an unforgettable personality. I never lost interest.

just enjoyable

I ordered my 2nd selection from this author....very easy to listen, and get absorbed in....I find my mind wandering with most fiction...not the case here.

Great Story But Abridged

This, as all of Trigiani'a books, is a great story. But what is lacking is the Unabridged version. Trigiani writes a wonderful story of a young woman discovering hidden secrets. Her characters are likeable and real. But I always feel I am missing something when it is abridged. I am amazed authors allow their works to be chopped up. Her narration is superb. But if you get the chance to buy the unabridged version, do so.

OKay...

This story didn't excite me as much as the other reviewers. It is ok...I really wish Ms. T would allow another narrator. Just my opinion.

Awesome start to the trilogy

Big stone gap is the excellent start to a trilogy. I started with the hard cover and bought it again on audible so I could read it on my way to work. You'll fall in love with the characters, they'll anger you and make you cry. Adriana really knows how to work on your emotions with her writing. A must read if you've ever lived in the Big Stone Gap area as I have, or if you've never even been to Virginia.

Not part of the series

Even tho I gave this book 5 stars, I have to say that I was disappointed. I expected it was a continuation of the series. It was a condensed version of the first book with a different name. I will send it back bc I already read that book. Still love the series so much!

enjoyable

Great light read. Enjoyable story and I like her voice (I had to get used to it). I have read a few of her books and have liked them all so far.
