Christian 20 years never read the Apocrypha

What did you love best about Holy Bible, Volume 18?

It was really informative and you can tell it's written by the same author as the "regular" bible.

What other book might you compare Holy Bible, Volume 18 to and why?

Regular bible.

Which character – as performed by the narrator – was your favorite?

All of them.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Protestants may have protested too much!

I recommend this for all non Catholic Christians to read. All the early church Father's quote from this which is why I became curious to read it.

Add ins interesting from a Protestant background

Extra adding about Esther and Daniel and Jeremiah s associate Baruch sound interesting. My Bible story of Daniel had him in the pit 1 night. Or 7 days- quite different to imagine the prophet Hanakkuk being flown to him with food while he was in the den. Stories like Tobit sound like witchcraft to use fish parts to heal a mans eyes from bird drippings. That account didn't feel had much veracity.

Chapter intro Spoilers

The only thing I would complain about here is that the readers read the intro to each section which summarizes that section, and spoils any surprises that a first time reader might not have normally expected.

What made the experience of listening to Holy Bible, Volume 18 the most enjoyable?

They were read very well. Unlike some recordings I've heard, the readers always sounded to me like they knew what they were reading. Well Done.

What other book might you compare Holy Bible, Volume 18 to and why?

The content resonates very closely in very many details to the Canonical Scriptures. It is certainly to be heard with that context in mind as much as possible. Hearing it is also a much nearer experience to that of the ancients as the act of reading-to-oneself is a more recent development. Very often in fact, people would have had these tales read to them instead of reading them for themselves.

What about the narrator’s performance did you like?

They were clear, articulate, and not so dramatic as to be histrionic and certainly not flat.

Any additional comments?

As someone who works with the ancient language, I'm never satisfied with any translation. The modern idioms and Western colloquialism made me wonder what interesting vocabulary connections they had glossed over.
