Reseñas editoriales

An early story in Hollywood Hellraisers has Marlon Brando being taken to kindergarten on a leash. Needless to say, most of this book covers the period after which Brando's leash has come off. Robert Sellers, author of a previous book on the bad boys of British moviemaking, gives gossipy, second-hand accounts of the more sordid aspects of the lives of Brando, Dennis Hopper, Jack Nicholson, and Warren Beatty, shuttling through stories of sexual conquest, rampant drug and alcohol abuse, and general bad behavior. None of the four legends were interviewed by Sellers, but as a kind of survey course in actors acting out, Hollywood Hellraisers will raise listeners eyebrows, and Jim Frangione's clear, even-handed narration provides a nice counterpoint to these salacious Hollywood tall tales.

Resumen del Editor

In his follow-up to the acclaimed Hellraisers, Sellers traces the intertwining lives and careers of four outrageous Hollywood movie mavericks.

“I don’t know what people expect when they meet me. They seem to be afraid that I’m going to piss in the potted palm and slap them on the ass.” - Marlon Brando

“I should have been dead ten times over. I believe in miracles. It’s an absolute miracle that I’m still around.” - Dennis Hopper

“You only lie to two people in your life: your girlfriend and the police.” - Jack Nicholson

“The best time to get married is noon. That way, if things don’t work out, you haven’t blown the whole day.” - Warren Beatty

They’re the baddest bad-asses Hollywood as ever seen: Marlon Brando, Dennis Hopper, Warren Beatty, and Jack Nicholson. They are men to whom rules did not apply; normal standards of behavior were simply too wearisome to worry about. These are men who brawled, boozed, snorted, and screwed their way into legend - but along the way they changed acting and the way movies were made forever. Hollywood Hellraisers is a whistle-stop tour of jaw-dropping sexual activity, misbehavior of an Olympic standard, all-out excess, and genuine madness. It’s a wonder Hollywood survived.

Reads like a bad tabloid

The writing leaves a lot to be desired. The narrative basically repeats the same bawdy behaviors of these "Hollywood Bad Boys" over and over ad nauseum before the first chapter is complete. The narrator somehow managed to sound bored yet envious at the same time; a true skill I'll admit. If you like repeating storylines about old men chasing tail, this one's for you.

Learned a lot , interesting all the way through

A great insight into the lives of these greats of film, filled with wild stories and funny anecdotes, broken down at a good pace, somehow finding a way to stay interesting throughout the process. Great read

Very Entertaining

I loved it, however, the narrator needs a little help with his pronunciation at several points. other than that, it was very well written and I really enjoyed it.

I didn’t know that!

Have fun romp, interesting to delightful stories about four of the best all time actors of the generation. A page turner, including who they were with, who they were without, and what they lived through!
I didn’t know that, I didn’t know that, and I didn’t know it that way...
Hollywood, New York City, London, Aspen, SF, It’s all there the bad boys that we loved and remember fondly today.

Very Interesting, But very crazy!

I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it. Their lives were interestingly lived even if I don't agree with how they did it.
My favorite actor in the bunch is Jack Nicholson, I feel sad that he couldn't commit to Angelica Houston.
I'm glad that Dennis Hopper found sobriety and a good career afterwards. Warren and Annette Bening, I'm happy for them, I like her. He was an okay actor.
I never could figure out all the hoopla about Marlon Brando as an actor, yes he was good in some movies, but he was a lazy actor, he apparently hating acting. But some people just loved him! They thought that he was the greatest!
It was a different time that's for sure.
