Acerca de esta escucha
Saint Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179) is one of the most inspiring figures in Christianity: a Doctor of the Church, visionary mystic, powerful composer of hymns, artist, and philosopher. Now, you have the opportunity to know Hildegard intimately in this program on her life and spirituality.
The story of her stunning visionary life and images of her great works of art have come down to us through the centuries. They are priceless gifts birthed from her long life as a Benedictine nun. Embark on this journey through Hildegard's life and works. Lyn Doucet delivers these excellent lectures in her signature Southern voice.
Hildegard created major texts of theology and cosmology accompanied by rich and powerfully beautiful illuminations: paintings derived directly from her visions. Hildegard also created lovely music for her nuns to sing, and her music is still widely popular today. She worked as a physician in her monasteries and wrote two books on the natural world and healing. Her letters to popes, kings, bishops, monks, nuns, and laypeople continue to offer an amazing glimpse into her life and times.
Hildegard's understanding of all things great and small was ahead of its time, and her relationship with God continues to speak powerfully to us in our own era. Blessed John Paul II called Hildegard a "light for her people and her time." Spend some time with this inspiring Doctor of the Church and discover how her mystical light continues to guide us today.

Historia
The City of God is one of the most important works of Christian history and philosophy ever written. The writings of St. Augustine are as intriguing to the casual reader as it is to Christian researchers. St. Augustine's work provides insight into Western thought and the development of Western civilizations. The City of God provides the reader with an artful contrast between earthy cities and those in heaven as a representation of the eternal struggle between good and evil. The City of God was originally penned in the early 5th century as a response to the prevalent belief that Christianity was to blame for the fall of Rome. St. Augustine is known as one of the most influential Fathers of the Catholic Church. Born November 13, 354, Augustine would eventually be recognized as a Saint by the Catholic Church, the Eastern Christian Church, and the Anglican Communion.

The enlightenment you seek in other religions has been present in Christianity from the beginning. Richard Rohr, a global leader in spiritual awakening, helps you recognize the forces (such as ego resistance and dual thinking) that separate you from your deeper self. Then, drawing from Gospels and the greatest Christian contemplatives, he shows you what it means to be spiritually awake. You will learn why your ego resists change and growth, what is useful about popular ideas such as the law of attraction, what Jesus, the first mythical leader in the West, can teach you.

Best-selling author and professor Dr. Taylor Marshall provides an easy-to-understand collection of Church fathers, saints, and mystics as he pulls back the curtain on the end times prophecies of the Book of Revelation—the book originally called the Apocalypse.

Many of us feel trapped in a grind of constant change: rolling news cycles, the chatter of social media, our families split along partisan lines. We feel fearful and tired, on edge in our bodies, not quite knowing what has us perpetually depleted. For Katherine May, this low hum of fatigue and anxiety made her wonder what she was missing. Could there be a different way to relate to the world, one that would allow her to feel more rested and at ease, even as seismic changes unfold on the planet?

Historia
Catherine of Siena (March 25, 1347-April 29, 1380) was a mystic, activist, and author who had a great influence on Italian literature and the Catholic Church. Catherine's mystical theology was employed towards practical ends for her own spiritual life and those of others. She used the language of medieval scholastic philosophy in the Dialogue, a poetic and prophetic work. Advocating for continuous, humble prayer, she hears God the Father answering her requests in order to receive help to be saved. Catherine gives special importance to mental prayer, but also recommends vocal prayer.

Historia
At the center of The Dark Night of the Soul (La noche oscura del alma) is a poem written by the 16th century Spanish poet and mystic St John of the Cross. Consisting of eight stanzas, each of five lines, the poem outlines the journey in pursuit of divine union, within which the only source of light comes from the soul. This recording in English includes the poem itself and St John's two accompanying treatises (1584-1585), essentially commentaries, which offer line-by-line explanations of the poem. Many modern listeners have found guidance and consolation in this work.

Historia
This classic work from Thomas à Kempis, author of The Imitation of Christ, is now available in English for the first time. It is a simple truth that, without the virtue of humility, we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. It simply cannot be done. Just as pride is the root and source of all sin, so is humility, the foundational virtue in which all other virtues must be grounded if they are to bear fruit. Humility is the heartbeat of the saints. It is the virtue that conforms us most closely to Christ.

The Story of a Soul conveys St. Therese of Lisieux's "Little Way" of spiritual childhood - her "elevator" to Heaven, as she called it. This method was approved by Pope Pius XI as a way for all to grow in holiness through unfailing confidence and childlike delight in God's merciful love. Again and again in this audiobook, St. Therese shows us how her "Little Way" of love and trust comes straight from Sacred Scripture.

Was an international plot underfoot to destroy the Vatican’s financial stability? If so, by whom, and to what end? Historia
While many histories of Christian worship exist, this project undertakes a task both more focused and more urgent. Rather than survey the whole history of the Christian church, it focuses on the formative period between the first and fifth centuries CE, when so many of the understandings and patterns of Christian worship came to be. And rather than include such developments as the monastic hours of prayer and the history of ordination, the authors deal primarily with those aspects of worship that recur on a weekly or regular basis: preaching, Eucharist, and baptism.

Continuously popular since it first appeared in 1977, The Incorruptibles remains the acknowledged classic on the bodies of Saints that did not undergo decomposition after death, many remaining fresh and flexible for years, or even centuries. After explaining both natural and artificial mummification, the author shows that the incorruption of the Saints bodies fits into neither category but constitutes a much greater phenomenon which is unexplained by modern science even to this day.

Historia
Each day, it seems another Christian institution or leader breaks our trust, raising questions about whether faith is an asset or a liability for living today. After almost three decades as a pastor, Gregg Koskela watched the disillusionment and pain grow as their church community splintered and broke apart.

Excellent source
I like how the information was blocked into 30 minute intervals, keeping with a particular theme. The information given was helpful in my research on Hildegard of Bingen, giving me an overview of the life and times of this remarkable woman. The way the information was organized helped me keep my thoughts clear and precise when giving a presentation on Hildegard of Bingen. I was surprised how much I learned in such a short amount of time.

Very meaningful
I was fascinated to learn about the life and thoughts of a remarkable woman living in a completely different time and place. Doucent helped me see Hildegard o Bingen as a real person with real feelings, bold ideas and a deep faith and compassion. Thank you.

Do not waste your credit on this drivel
I wasted a credit on this drivel because I was interested in the life and times of St Hildegard as a historical figure. What I got was one long droning sentimental sermon of the most sanctimonious and sickening kind. Yuck!

Preach-y
I just wanted the history and facts about Hildegard's life but half of the book was about the author's religious beliefs. If you're very Catholic you might enjoy the book. I was looking for more about her musical, compositional, and scientific contributions.

Repetitive & Shallow
This book is based off of the life and writings of a Doctor of the church. It should be full of strong Catholic references, dogma, and philosophy. This book is hours of saying the same sentence on repeat, and misinterpreting the visions as new age sounding fever dreams. It’s poorly done at best, and an introduction into relativism and the new age feminism at worst. It is stomach curdling.
