Resumen del Editor

Something vital is missing from David Hero's comfortable, ordinary existence. One day is much like the next, simple, predictable...boring.

But the nights! Each night David Hero finds himself transported to a marvelous world where brave men and women battle terrible creatures possessed of cruel, dark powers.

Despite his fears, the Dreamworlds tempt David, drawing him farther and farther from the waking world. Here he finds noble warriors; beautiful, loving women; and challenges almost greater than he can imagine.

Loved it

This review easily gets five stars from me. I am a longtime fan of Brian Lumley, and his Dreamland saga.
In terms of story, I find David Hero [of the Dreamlands] is a man many of us wish to be- he is brave, cunning, strong, and witty. I also find that many of us can identify with his waking world self. The story itself is nothing out there, but I find it immensely enjoyable, as it combines Lovecraftian Horror against Sword & Sorcery to a satisfying result.
The narrator, Jonathan Truman, conveys the dry humor in the story excellently, and he is a very clear voice actor in terms of understanding him.
Five out of five.

By Day Boring, But By Night Always a New Adventure

Would you give up a perfectly good but predictably boring life to live in an ever challenging and changing dreamworld? David Hero & Professor Dingle (known in the story as Hero & Eldin the wanderer) are two such people who do.

Hero & Eldin are your typical good hearted rouges who travel through the dreamworld looking for the next adventure to earn fame and fortune. But like most rouges they inevitably end up making their world better.

I have not read the H.P. Lovecraft Cthulhu mythos books so this book took me a bit to get into but once I reached that point I was hooked. Thanks Brian Lumley.

Jonathan Trueman did an excellent job at bringing the words to life.

An Adventure in a World of Dreams

If you could sum up Hero of Dreams in three words, what would they be?

Odd, expansive, and exciting.

What did you like best about this story?

I enjoyed the level of imagination that Lumley put forth into the novel. A book following Lovecraft's idea of a dreamworld already sets the bar high in that particular area, but he follows along without any trouble in suiting that setting.

What about Jonathan Trueman’s performance did you like?

I liked the overall performance, he did a great job managing to keep the tone of the work one of adventure and pulpy action.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There was not. That's not something I expect from a novel such as this however so there is no reason to think negatively of it.

Any additional comments?

I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review and would recommend it to anyone, even if they are not interested in the worlds of Lovecraft because on a secondary level it works just fine as an adventure in a land of imagination.
