Resumen del Editor

Hellraiser: The Toll tells the story of what happened between Clive Barker's iconic works Hellraiser and its literary follow-up, The Scarlet Gospels. Written by Mark Alan Miller (Next Testament, The Steam Man), featuring narration by director Tom Holland (Child's Play, Fright Night), a full cast that includes Mali Elfman, Kasey Lansdale, Peter Atkins, Robert Parigi, Richard Ankles, Christian Francis, Joshua Holland, and Justin Vonderach, and original music by powerhouse composer Cris Velasco (God of War 1-3, Clive Barker's Jericho).

Thirty years after Kirsty escaped from the clutches of the Hell Priest, Pinhead, and lived to fight another day, her life has never been the same. Every few years, she fashions a new name, a new identity, and a new home for herself; she is a woman who is running from her past at all costs, which is why it comes as such a surprise when she receives a mysterious letter in the mail, addressed to the identity she's been running from over half her life.

Answering the letter's query, she begins a descent down a rabbit hole to the ultimate confrontation. Her actions stir something unnameable in the ether, and throw her into a game where nothing…not even what she sees in front of her very eyes…can be trusted.

With equal parts economy and eloquence, author Mark Alan Miller brings to life the beginning of the end as The Toll expands the Hellraiser universe, and shows that before Detective Harry D'Amour's adventures in The Scarlet Gospels, there was a first witness to Pinhead's infernal plan.

Featured Article: The Hellbound Heart and Hellraiser—Book vs. Movie

One of the most recognizable characters from horror films, and a wildly popular Halloween costume to boot, is The Hell Priest, better known as Pinhead, from Hellraiser. It's one of the most arresting sights in the 1987 film adaptation of Clive Barker's 1986 novella, The Hellbound Heart. Based on this character's lasting popularity in pop culture, you might think that Pinhead featured prominently in the book—but that’s not the case.

Too short for the listener

I wanted more into this game for souls between Christie and the coldman. What happens in the next encounter between the two? Who will be the victor

too short,...

too short, the story ends right when you expect the story begins. seems like a prequel tease to the real story. writing and atmosphere is great and on par with the mythos of the movies, just feel scheated in the amount of content, this would be fine In a book of short stories, but not a stand alone novel.

HR The Toll

I have always been a big fan of Clive Barker's work, whether it be on print, audio or work on TV/Film. This snippet is no exception, and Tom Holland does a great job narrating....I was gifted this audiobook and this is my voluntary unbiased review.

Time to Pay The Toll

So I did like Hellraiser: The Toll. I will warn anybody that it is very short. However it is still very enjoyable and a great addition to the Hellraiser series. The plot over all was interesting seeing Christy Cotton once again. I did enjoy that every character had a different person playing them. Also I will have to say that the music and sound effects that are in the audio version are great. I really enjoyed the Narrator Tom Holland. To describe how he told the story picture the voice over in A Christmas Story. While that would normally annoy me I found it quite enjoyable in this story. All in all I would recommend Hellraiser: The Toll by Mark Alan Miller to anyone who enjoys the Hellraiser series are likes a good short horror story.

The story is awesome, just wish it were longer.

Overall not too bad of a story. Production quality could have been better but still not bad.

Great book in need of a Revamp

I like the story. it's smart and suspenseful and the characters interact well, the plot is slow but ends so quick, I would hope for a sequel or an extended version to flesh things out.

The obvious blemish in this book is the narration. Tom Holland can speak well, but the audio quality is not crisp and you have to really focus to try and make out the words he is saying. More of a annoyance than an issue,

If this book was remade with clearer audio and a longer read time, I think it can blow it out of the park for the Hellraiser series.

Great Sound Effects/Voice Overs

I really enjoyed the voice overs and the atomospheric sound effects, it really captures what makes an audiobook different from regular books. I particularly enjoyed how distinct each character sounds, although the narrator's voice does sound a little off from the main voices. However, it's not distracting. A very unique take on audiobooks, it feels as though it's a movie. Recommended for all to listen to at least once.

Storyline

At times the guy read too fast. Didn't really give you a chance to enjoy the story or get into it.

I Love Clive Barker, Not Mark Alan Miller

This story had some good aspects to it, but reads like fan fiction. It disregards The Hellbound Heart in favor of the film. It references events and people, such as Harry d'Amour, from The Scarlet Gospels but fails to place itself logically within the timeline. Not to mention The Hell Priest is only about as strong as Frank Cotton for this story. It isn't written poorly and there are some threads that I want to hear more about, but overall the story just feels out of place.
