Beautifully Described Haitian Revolution

I'm extremely happy to have such a wonderful described Haitian revolution. The incidents are clearly explained I recommend this book.

Very detailed book about Haitian history

The book is a great look into Haitian history and should be read by anyone who wants to learn about Haitian history.

Great Haiti History

A great book that gives you a good background on the true history of Haiti. Helps you see things from the French and Haitian, black and white perspective.

Great History, Undermining Performance

Coughing, deep breaths, and air through the lips making a raspberry noise are very distracting and makes one suspicious of the source.

The narration is also at times incoherent - had to check names on Wikipedia to keep tabs on who is who and what is happening, such as when exactly Napoleon is involved and why. Also unsure if the “unnamed priestess” in the Bois Caiman is the absolutely named Cecile Fatiman or some other kind of omission.

Overall, though, the story is an acceptable retelling of the Haitian revolution, which is an inspiring story in itself. I just wouldn’t trust this as a source to put on a paper.

Well Done

It is a very well explained situation of the French military involvement and of the action/reaction of the slave element within the then white society. The emergence of Haiti is well covered in this book.

great content, terrible reading

for such a complicated and in depth subject matter it is written well and is easily understandable and digestible for most audiences. The recording was seemingly done in one take with no edits. Breathing, yawning, stopping, and re-reading lines is common throughout. Reading the line "decapitating colonists" followed by a long cartoonist yawn made me laugh out loud at the juxtaposition.

Another point of view

Good book, allot of detail which I might have missed from reading other books of this nature. The book seemed a little bias towards the planter class in my opinion. I got the feeling that the Insurgents or slaves that revolted where more interested in seeking revenge than their freedom. Yet it was a pretty accurate description on how things might have been back then in Haiti.

Excellent, Engaging Story That Needs To Be Heard

The story of the successful slave rebellion. This work is very engaging, and the subject is rarely studied by today's students. I have recommended this book to many people, it is really great.

A thoughtful, easily understand overview of the Haitian revolution and concurrent social and economic changes. Highly recommended for anyone interested in an introduction to this neglected and oft overlooked event in democratic, republican, and anti-colonial history.
