Resumen del Editor

If there's one thing most of the world knows about the USA, it's that we love guns. Depending on who you are, this might be a source of pride; knowing that your country provides you with the ultimate freedom to preserve life and liberty. For others, it's a source of shame that despite being the richest nation in the world, the USA doesn't even have the same level of gun regulations as many third world nations.

No matter how you feel about guns, knowing what to do about them is a difficult question for anybody. There are no easy answers to the debate about gun control. The information and statistics all seem to contradict each other, and everyone has such strong opinions about guns that there must be a right one.

This is where this book on gun control comes to help. Here you will be given an engaging and insightful look into the world of guns and gun control.

Understanding the true nature of gun violence and gun culture in the USA is as much about developing the ability to think critically about statistics and society as it is determining whether we should be giving people guns or taking them away.

The NRA tells you that guns stop 2.5 million crimes a year. Mother Jones tells you that you're more likely to kill yourself or your children than a criminal with a gun. Who to believe? What's the agenda?

Whether Republican or Democrat, gun-nut or gun-phobic, the truth is that the USA's gun homicide rate doesn't just beat out America's competition in the Western world, it obliterates it. Does this mean we need to bury our guns, or make sure we have enough to go around? Discover what gun control really means, and how it would manifest itself in America.

Excellent

Excellent book with well researched information about this unresolved issue. The author also do an excellent job of explaining the weaknesses of the statistics used by both sides in public discourse.

Sweet

This puts the current conflict over "Second Amendment Rights" into a historical perspective by tracing changes in the balance between the "right to bear arms" and the need to insure public safety.

Must read

Objective facts on a sometimes controversial topic. We're always able to deal with issues significantly better if we can get through the static and are equipped with non-partisan facts.

Opened up my mind!

Opened my mind to both sides of the gun debate but did not persuade me to buy a weapon for self-protection. Many in our population lack the self control and skill to NOT "react first - think later" which leads to tragedy and remorse.

Excellent

Christopher advocates for both sides of the argument, searching a common ground large enough for partisans on both sides of the debate.

Factual

Great beginning for a reasoned conversation about gun ownership rights and gun safety for the public, gun owners and non owners. Very readable and factual. As an almost life long gun owner, hunter and sport shooter (trap), I am very concerned that we have not been able to have a careful, non emotional debate about how to ensure gun ownership rights and to deal with the public health issue of 30 plus thousand gun deaths a year. This book allows for a discussion based on facts to begin.

Very informative

Clear and concise over view of the issues in the "Gun Debate." The author take a look at the particulate issues in this complex debate. Excellent book for anyone looking for more information.

Not Bias

Although the author is not totally unbiased about the gun issue, he doesn't let his feelings on the subject become a burden. All in all this is a great coverage of the gun rights subject. Even though I lived through a lot of the history he discusses, I learned a lot.

Best book

Fair and balanced treatment of a serious problem. As for "anti-gun bias", the author isn't anti-hunter, but he do offer strong arguments to support common sense gun control -- what is fast becoming a historical artifact.
