Resumen del Editor

Greg Giraldo was one of the most admired standup comedians of the 21st Century. This book tells his story, from his boyhood in Queens to his Ivy League education, to his decision to drop a law career to pursue standup comedy. The authors have researched his life and interviewed more than 60 people who knew Greg well - family, friends, standups, managers, and more - to produce a full picture of the brilliant yet complex figure who left the stage too soon.

Greg was an incredible comic.

Greg Giraldo was by far one of the best comics to ever step on stage. I still miss him, his comedy and can't believe he is gone. Forever the the best comic in my view. RIP Greg your work lives on forever.

By-the-numbers, no real insights

If you're a fan of Geraldo, this won't tell you much more than you already know. It tells you what Greg did, but doesn't go into the why. His childhood and college years are briefly covered, then we get a detailed recapping of his comedy career, followed by a short description of his end. We all know his greatest hits (how he killed at Comedy Central Roasts, his work on Tough Crowd, his stand up) so while I didn't mind hearing about them again, it wasn't anything new. I didn't know the details about his TV shows, so that was interesting. Going back to the whys, though, maybe it's impossible to know why an exceptionally smart and educated man would become an addict, but it wouldn't have hurt the authors to dig more deeply into his life. Was he bullied? Did he suffer from depression? Was he overly romantic?

As a primer on the life of Geraldo, this was good. I didn't mind listening to it. But this isn't the definitive biography of one of the greatest comedians of his time.
