Hooked me in on First Page

A strange cloud that makes people want to touch it and turns into almost a vine that attacks the person. The town is being attacked by these things and no one knows what it is. A mayor that is worried more about his status than the people. What will happen next while the volunteers go up the mountain to see where these things are coming from.

Never look at clouds the same way

After listening to this story, I'll never look at a cloud the same way. True horror story of beautiful white clouds that hold a deadly horror that attacks a small town. This was a fast paced action and survival story. Many characters you find yourself wanting to beat the odds and characters that turned into "monsters" because of the clouds. This book had it all with a high horror factor. Will anyone survive??? Guess you'll have to read it to find out.

A great horror book

When Dennis carrier sees what looks like cotton candy floating in the sky, he goes to work until his coworkers about it and most of them shake their head in disbelief. He will get his chance to prove it though because later that night at the local bar they see more of it falling from the sky and after one of the towns people touches it they watch him Roll around and turning and then die. It’s not over though the next day there’s more hell to come, The local bully becomes something no local bully should becomeIan he is out for Dennis and his new girlfriend Tammy , Who he is loved since childhood. As if that isn’t enough the mayor is working against them the nice sheriff becomes something that makes him eat his self and what does this all have to do with the mysterious village on the mountain that burned down a few years ago? This book was really really good! I didn’t expected to be as good as it was and I am so glad I read it and can’t wait to read more by this author. I loved the narrator and found his voice soothing and very easy to listen to. I highly recommend this book since finishing I have downloaded two more books by this author. One of them being the mysterious village that burned down mysteriously in the story. I love this book and if you love horror you’ll love this book as well.

Inventive horror story!

I recently received an offer of a review copy of Gossamer Falls, not knowing what to expect story wise (I didn’t read the description) other than I needed a book to listen to I loaded this story in my phone and spent the day listening to it. To say I was blown away by this story is an understatement the longer I listened the more invested I became in the story as well as the characters. Mr. Douglas has created a story that puts your emotions through a rollercoaster ride. While this was my first story by Mr. Douglas, this will not be the last. The narration by Peter Kuhn is excellent and brings the story to life.

Perfect Horror story

This was a perfect spooky story. A small mountain town discovers some strange clouds descending on their town. Of course people are curious and investigate. Just remember never touch strange clouds that seem to attch themselves to objects. People were touching them & the results unleashed an impossible enemy that you can't escape. People were acting strangely as well. As citizens tried to flee they soon realized it was impossible to leave town with trees blocking the road. This story kept me turning the pages for sure. Nice horror story.

Tightly woven & well-written supernatural suspense

Gossamer Falls (Evil Rising Series), my sixth read from author European P. Douglas. A well-written, entertaining read. 7-hours 32-minutes/338-pages. Kind of a follow-up to Rampike: A Supernatural Thriller (Evil Rising Series). Peter Kuhn's narration adds to this supernatural thriller's enjoyment. “I received a free Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I'll definitely be reading more from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Entertaining

The author did a fantastic job with this book. The story line was well written while the character work was great. The author did a fantastic job bringing the book to life and made this an easy one sitting listen.

This review will contain minor spoilers for the novel Rampike by author European P. Douglas at the very end. Feel free to skip that, though it will help clarify what I’m trying to say with the rest of the review.

This review will be referencing another novel by the same author, Rampike, a supernatural thriller. I’ve searched on Google, Amazon, Goodreads, and Audible and I can’t find any surefire proof that these two novels are connected. However, there’s mention of a city and some events from Rampike that tell me they likely share a literary world. You need not have read Rampike for this story to make sense and I barely remember it. Had there been a hint of their connection, I’d have listened to this book much sooner so Rampike would be fresh on my mind.

Reading my review of Rampike, I found it incredibly slow. While numerous plot threads of Gossamer Falls are damn near identical to Rampike, I didn’t have that issue this time around. It was well-paced and interesting all the way through. A second note from my Rampike review is that I noted how it’s similar to the movies The Mist and Tremors. I didn’t make that connection while listening to Gossamer Falls, but it remains true for this story as well.

It’s really difficult for me to not constantly bring up Rampike in this review. Gossamer Falls feels like Rampike with a different coat of paint. It led to me being able to predict the ending, which did sap some of my enjoyment of it. Though it also has me wanting to listen to both books back to back and has me curious if there are other novels with a similar premise set in this literary universe.

The narrator is excellent. I recognized his voice from when I reviewed A Shaded Room by European P. Douglas. A big complaint of mine with Rampike was the narrator. So it was a breath of fresh air to hear a familiar voice and a great narrator to boot.

At some point in this novel, the characters mention a town named Mercy and a man-made of wood. I don't remember the name of the town from Rampike, but the man-made of wood was 100% in Rampike. Which led to me finding absolutely nothing when I went searching if these two stories were connected. The plots are essentially mirrors of each other and those references to Rampike lead me to believe they're standalone books set in the same world, but not being able to find any confirmation anywhere is annoying. As I find myself wishing to read more books set in this world. I find it fascinating and want to see how things unfold. The characters bring up a second city that was destroyed and I can't help but wonder if it's referencing another novel set in the world.

Great horror twist!

I received an advanced listener's copy of this book. I am so glad I did! There is something about a book that can twist such a primal fear that really gets me hooked. It was so dark and twisted that I didn't just want more but needed more! I highly recommend this to all readers of horror and supernatural books. I will be picking up a physical copy of this book soon to ad to my collection and check out the rest of European P. Douglas' other works.

A good horror story

This is a good story, fast-paced and entertaining, with a lot of action and a lot of the usual tropes of the genre.

Its better feature is the descriptions; this author always manages to put us in the setting of his stories with his words, and that's something I really appreciate.

The narration, though... it's barely mediocre. The volume is unbalanced, there are sectors with background noise, others with an echo-y quality, and the narration itself lacks emotional depth.
