Resumen del Editor

With dramatic flair, Jeff Guinn delivers the definitive portrait of Bonnie and Clyde. These media-savvy outlaws appealed to America's Depression-era hunger for swashbuckling characters. Glowing radio and newspaper reports transformed these "public enemies" into celebrities - much like the cinema gangsters of the time.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"With the brisk pacing of a novel, Guinn's richly detailed history will leave readers breathless until the final hail of bullets." ( Publishers Weekly)
"A fine work of history.... Easily readable and includes much of the last two decades' new scholarship.... Go Down Together is especially good at...placing Bonnie and Clyde in context." ( The New York Times Book Review)

Annoying Narrator

I usually don't write reviews but I have noticed that the narrator of Go Down Together has the annoying habit of dropping the "s" at the end of words that are clearly plural in the context. I started noticing it early in my listening to the recording and it seemed to become more pronounced as the book went on. Other than this, I find Mr. Hogan narration to be very good. He has a pleasant voice and ennunciates well (which is probably why dropping the "s" is so noticeable). I have nothing but praise for the book itself. It is well researched, well written and extremely interesting. I thought I knew a lot about Bonnie and Clyde until I read this book. It was almost a daily account of their lives. It is an amazing accomplishment.

Excellent Book!

What an amazing story. This book was thoroughly researched. You learn about the people, the places, the time. I could not get enough.

Great writing and narration

I heard about this book on LPOTL, and it didn’t disappoint. I wanted to comment because I almost didn’t get the audible version because of comments about the narrator’s lisp. If he has a lisp I certainly didn’t notice. I found him engaging all the way though.

Fascinating & hard to put down

Masterfully written and performed, I enjoyed learning the truth behind this infamous couple. I highly recommend it. Who knew Clyde only was 5'5" 120 pounds or that both had been crippled?

Spittle????

Would you consider the audio edition of Go Down Together to be better than the print version?

Yes

What other book might you compare Go Down Together to and why?

not sure

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jonathan Hogan?

James Earl Jones, Maybe. Jonathan Hogan got on my nerves.. He always spoke like he had a mouth full of spit or phlegm.. Yuck. Clear you throat why don't you. His narration destroyed and otherwise great story. It was all I could do to get through it. My stomach turned listening to that narrator.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

For the love of Greed. The Barrow-Parker Story

Any additional comments?

Yes. It was so sad the only thing they could do to survive as it were, Was to steal and murder, but I don't think they should've been gunned down like they were animals.

Great story; Annoying narrator.

The story was fascinating but the narrator whistled his "s" In an attempt to hide this, he did one of several things. He would sometimes skip the "s" at the end of a word. He often sounded like he was talking with a mouth full of marbles or like he had had a few too many glasses of wine and was slurring his speech to hide the whistling "s". I found it terribly distracting.

Excellent

Great book, loads of great info on Clyde and Bonnie. True crime during the 30's is always fascinating.

Excellent!!!

I almost passed on this book after reading some of the reviews about the narration. Please don’t believe them. The book and the narration are remarkable. I can not recommend this book enough. It’s outstanding.

The truth shall set you free

I dare anyone to watch any of films or docudramas about Bonnie and Clyde without laughing at the inaccuracies. Since listening to Go Down Together, I've watched a few and they come no where near the truth. I thought perhaps the fault was in GDT, but after some basic research I found the fault was with with Hollywood. This is a fascinating history that is told very well, well worth the listen.

excellent account.

Would you consider the audio edition of Go Down Together to be better than the print version?

I can't say.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

The interesting facts about Bonnie, and Clyde that greatly differ from film accounts.

Which scene was your favorite?

Hearing the actual ambush.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I would have to say the tender moments between Bonnie, Clyde, and their families despite the fact that they were criminals.

Any additional comments?

If you have only seen the movie based on these two, you certainly do not get the truth of their tragic, and in a way touching lives in some respects. If you are interested in the lives of Bonnie, and Clyde, listen to this compelling novel.
