much too short

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

As collections of horror short stories go, this was a VERY short collection. It was 13 stories crammed into an hour and 16 minutes. I just felt they were too short to be worth a credit. Each story is only a few minutes long, so they were over before I really got into them. There was virtually no transition between stories either, which made made for an awkward listen. The narration was pretty good for what it was. But I just think the stories needed to be much longer.

Great Collection of Horror Stories

This was an enjoyable read. The stories are narrated excellently. If you enjoy short horror stories then I would suggest you give this collection a listen. I will be recommending this to my friends.

13 Short Stories to Scare you

This is the second book of short stories that I've read, and I have to say I like his style. The first book of his that I read/listened to was Zombies, Ghosts, a Psycho and a Fight. I really enjoyed it and man am I glad that I did. So, when I saw that he had another book on audible, I had to review it as well, because I didn't want to miss out on anything good. Pow, where book one had 4 stories, this one has 13! What a lucky number!! Lucky for us, anyway. Some are really short, and others take their time in the telling, but each is worth your time. We start with the Last Sunrise, in which Scarlett (a young lady and a murderer) living in a post war dying world, and we end with Dawn of the Triffids. I think Triffids was my favorite story, and I had to chortle at the cat lady reference.

Hope does a really good job handling the narration. I enjoyed listening to him, and feel that he was a good match for Huggin's style. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

A so - so group of short stories

Would you try another book from Mr. Paul S. Huggins and/or D. Michael Hope?
maybe. the problem is, most of these weren't even really stories so much as a synopsis of a story or someone telling kind of what the story is about, I didn't get a sense of a complete story and some were so short I didn't even realize what they were about.

Has Glances Through the Eyes of the Reaper turned you off from other books in this genre?
no, I love horror which is one of the reasons I wanted to give this a try. Didn't consider any of these horror, though.

What aspect of D. Michael Hope’s performance would you have changed?
Great voice, but almost lulled me to sleep - not because he's boring but there wasn't a lot of tonal change and his voice just naturally seems to be very soothing

Could you see Glances Through the Eyes of the Reaper being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
not really - didn't think any of the stories were standouts that would be able to be fleshed out that much

Any additional comments?

At times, while listening, I couldn't tell that a story was over and another had begun and got confused. A better break and more definite reading of the story title. maybe music in between.

Well Written, Well Read

I enjoyed these well written, well read stories. They range from 1 to15 minutes in length, and in mood from clever to poignant. Definitely worth listening to.

13 short and shorter stories

This is my second audiobook from Paul S. Huggins, the first one being Zombies, Ghosts, a Psycho and a Fight. This collection was much shorter. Some stories are almost before you realize they began. That being said, the writing is very good and the narration is also excellent. I'll have to go with one of his full novels next.

A Nice Group of Short Stories..

This is a group of short stories that deals with death. Each one has it own version of death...easy and peaceful to a tragic murdered death. The stories are very short sometimes too short. The narration was okay. Sometimes the characters all sound the same. The stories go straight from one to the other without any notification. Mixed Bag O' Death

As the description says, this is an eclectic mix of short stories all loosely gathered around a theme of death, ranging from peaceful to tragic murderous. Given the variety, the story quality can vary quite a bit, although some of this can be attributed to personal preference. A few of the stories had some nice twists and interesting elements. None of the stories were bad, but neither did any really stand out. Given the variety of settings and characters, Huggins shows himself to have a top notch imagination.

D. Michael Hope's narration was alright, although a little deadpan. I don't think he was a good choice for this work, because most of the stories are set in the UK, and Hope speaks with a North American accent. This made some of the British phrases sound odd and unnatural.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
