Hiro
When I first realized that I could see the dead, I never imagined that it would allow me to help save the lives of others, or pull me into Detective Maddox Booker’s path. Through my ability, ghosts have become some of my greatest friends and allies.
But now, someone’s dead, and his ghost is gone. Ghosts have sought my help for my entire life, wanting to be heard. Now, something is keeping them quiet, almost hostile. as our search for the ghost of the dead man leads us to a small village. Even though everything looks normal on the outside, I’m starting to wonder what’s happening on the inside.
Maddox
Life is better than it’s ever been. Hiro’s by my side, and has brought my best friend Reggie back into my life - if we can consider Reggie’s harassment (even as a ghost) a positive. And even Hiro’s horde of ghosts won’t keep me from asking him to move in with me. The only issue is that, work is never quiet, especially when Hiro is able to dive into a whole new side of a case by speaking to the victims of the dead.
But, when someone takes Hiro from me in the middle of the night, I know that I will do absolutely anything to get him back, and I will make them pay for what they’ve done.
Ghost of Truth is full of action, mystery, humor, and romance. Though more is planned for this couple, the mystery is solved - and there is a happy ending.

There are some really heavy issues that don't feel heavy because of the snark and sarcasm, although there are more feels in this one. I didn't do my research but I'm guessing we'll get more books in this series because it doesn't feel finished. As far as I'm concerned, Ms. Winters can keep 'em coming because I'm loving this! Ghosts are some of my favorite paranormal characters!!
Keep 'em coming!

Great second installment of series

This second book has a fresh mystery to solve, which once again interrupts and entwines with the characters relationship progression. It had an overall intriguing progression, with some solid plot twists and WTFs along the way.
I appreciate we once again explore the difficult but important themes of violence against women, the normalcy and seemingly regular life of the people who become offenders, and as bonus we also further dive into the idea that people who die are not just all good folks with tragic deaths looking for help.
The performance was really engaging, character voices distinct but not over the top. My favourite thing is the small accents/VA accentuation where the dialogue is delivered so that the descriptor is clear even before we get to the narrator speech. I love the extra touch - top marks.
The Neutral: I am admitting here that I didn't pay huge attention to the spice, since it was more a side dish to my main reading enjoyment, but I am sure you won't be disappointed if you came to this series for that. Unfortunately I can't give you much about it.
The Bad: If you were as frustrated as I was with the first book's approach to mystery - characters holding vital information not completing their sentences and the heroes getting interrupted just before they can get a key clue - you will remain frustrated here. Overall, I love me some "can't get to the truth that easily, honey!" but when it feels like the only device the author uses to keep the characters away from the solve, it just doesn't work for me. For this one, the way the plot conceals the solve also involves simply withholding/contradicting a vital peace of information from the reader. I prefer at least a good hidden message between the lines I can come back to and enjoy. Multiple frustrations in a row just ain't my thing.
Audio wise, I only can complain the pauses between ebd of chapter and beginning of next always made me anxious the playback had paused or glitched - a bit too long imo.
