Resumen del Editor

For decades, Fred Burton was a key figure in international counterterrorism and domestic spy craft. As a member of the State Department's Diplomatic Security Service in the mid 1980s, he was on the front lines of America's first campaign against terror. Now, in this hard-hitting memoir, Burton emerges from the shadows to reveal who he is, what he has accomplished, and the threats that lurk unseen except by an experienced, world-wise few. Told in a no-holds-barred, gripping, nuanced style, this behind-the scenes account of one counterterrorism agent's life and career is a riveting listen.

Narrator Ruined this

Such a disappointment. After finishing the brilliant story and fantastic spoken word performance, I was excited to start another Fred Burton novel. Tom Weiner narrated this one and his style is ridiculous and I am shocked that he was hired and actually approved of. Hanginggg onnn the last letterrr is so annoyinggggg. I just can’t do it. But Mr Burton’s writing means that I will purchase a copy and actually read.

Exceptional

So I didn't know about this author until I heard about him on the Jack Carr Danger Close podcast. I loved what he had to say there and decided to check out his work. I am so far from disappointed, and cannot wait to listen to his other books. It 'reads' like a thriller, but is a memoir of sorts. Loved the voice of this book. At first I thought he may be too monotone for my liking, but it rapidly grew on me and I finished it in just under 2 days. Hypnotic is a better way to put it. Awesome story and I can't wait to hear more.

A must read for anyone interrested in CT

Fred Burton is one hell of a man. Thank god he found his way into the DSS.
I was going to college to be a CT agent, and got into a horrible car wreck, had a heart attack, and suffer TBI now. Some days I regret slipping through the cracks, but books like Ghost remind me the grass isn't necessarily greener on that side of the hill. The dark world is a very shady place, and Fred Burton shines a pretty bright light on it.
The sacrifice of his family life, and the way he talked about it, really show how consuming CT jobs are. They definitely take a toll on people. It is sad Fred had to endure that.
I cannot recommend this book enough. I give it ALL the stars.

Fantastic memoir

Fred Burton is a brave individual who sacrificed his entire adult life to protecting the US.

There are some really interesting tales about the terror that happens while we sleep on the other side of the world and the terror Burton has stopped before it had a chance to happen.

In addition, it’s fun listening to Burton train the younger crew how to be more covert while in the field. Plus, the friends who became bosses, the bosses who became friends and everyone in between.

These are the type of books I like; they’re riveting and intriguing. Of course, we know the agent survived, but just how he survived is the great part.

Tom Weiner does a great job of getting inside the mind of Burton; what it must have felt like to have whatever is around the corner totally unknown- while also putting on a brave face.

I recommend this one, highly!

Great Audiobook

Ghost: Confessions of a Counterterrorism Agent by Fred Burton is a great read about the sacrifices that the brave men and women waging the war on terror make on a daily basis. Burton is an expert in the field of counter-terrorism and reading his book is like taking an advanced class on the subject. Sadly, there still seems to exist the lack of teamwork amongst the agencies that are so needed to work together. Hopefully, with works like this readable book by Burton, people will wake up and realize the need to focus on the issues and not worry about obtaining glory or credit for stopping the threats that exist.

Burton is a hero and we should all thank him for the dedication and commitment he has shown to this country. A four star read. Enjoyable, informative, and scary.

The narrator does an excellent job.

Interesting - but doesn't flow well

I am glad I bought the book - it was interesting and informative. The narrator did a great job - it was hard to believe that one person could have so many different voices.

However the author never really hit his groove. The book often felt like a series of independent note cards that were just strung together with occasional editorial comments.

The real perspective into the dark corners of the world.

I loved it.
He tells the story of a real patriot and lawman from the inside of counterterrorism.
I am the son of a cop. And I’m a veteran. These things are important to me.
Throughout my childhood and teenage years one my favorite things to do was sit with my dad with his veteran and cop friends around the picnic table. Saturday afternoon would melt into Saturday evening as we sat around the grill. Potatoes and onions wrapped in foil cooking in the coals. When I turned 16 I occasionally got one bottle of
Miller beer.
The stories never ended.
This is a great story of a humble lawman’s journey protecting our people and nation.

Great listen about the war on terror the good and unfortunately bad

Narrator did a excellent job on delivering the goods. Long time audible listener and this one is a keeper, especially if you’re wondering what happened on the so-called war on terror

One of first on nonfiction/bio list I really liked

This was very well written and very well done. It wasn't only informative, but was told almost like a spy novel--closer than most books of this kind. Very good. I recommend it.
