As a pro football player, I'm known for scoring both on and off the field. All that changes when a tragic accident leaves me as a single dad to a little girl.
With both our lives flipped upside down, I'm scrambling to balance my career while supporting the needs of a girl who just had her life torn apart. My little black book is replaced with pink unicorns, and her peanut allergy means I have to rethink every meal I make. Despite my initial hesitation and uncertainty, I'm determined to do right by her.
Then we meet her reading teacher, Victoria, who's everything I'm not—responsible, bookish, and patient. Our constant verbal clashes feel like some twisted form of foreplay. Watching how quickly she bonds with my daughter in ways I can't proves I need her for more than simply helping me navigate this new life. Convincing her I'm not the man I used to be may be the biggest challenge yet.
Despite my history, I'm determined not to let my past fumble my future.
Fumbled is the first book in the Vegas Aces: The Playbook series, which must be listened to in order.

I get defiant when I'm not forewarned about cliff hangers and won't finish the series on principle because I feel it should be part of the synopsis and let me know going in what I'm signing up for. Feels like tricks and play on words/wallet when they don't.
All it says is that this is the first book in the series and it must be listened to in order. It should explicitly say, "Cliff Hanger"
The book was about a pro football player/playA that is seduced by a MUCH older woman when he's 18 (his mom's best friend). She's upset that her husband can't have kids and uses him. When he learns he fathered a child...the older woman basically tells him to stay away. When the kid turns 10...the older woman and her husband die in a car accident and Harper is left to him. (Says a lot that Harper is the only name I remember) because her biological dad is childish and maybe he'll turn around in book 2 but I just don't care enough to see this through for an additional fee).
Why didn't he tell his parents about his mom's best friend using him? Because his parents don't deal with him and just send him away to boarding school. But as he becomes a parent, he's started to understand them better.
Ms. Hartley is a teacher at Harper's new school. The story starts with her turning down the pro football player when he hits on her because she's in a relationship AND the player's reputation precedes him as a playA. He gets mad and when he learns that she's his daughter's new teacher, they keep butting heads. However, Harper takes to her which makes her biological dad mad and snap...causing Harper to run. Then the book stops.
I was led to this book by the narrator. I'm a huge Callie Dalton Fan and was looking for more books by her and I love the "surprise kid" trope so it was a win-win. The male narrator (Lance) was pretty good. He had some reading quirks that grated after a while (over-enunciates the "T"s at times) but were tolerable. I've listened to other books with him and he's a good actor also.
Cliff Hanger‼️ AND Spoiler!
