Acerca de esta escucha

Brought to you by Penguin.

Lama Yeshe didn't see a car until he was 15 years old.

In his quiet village, he and other children ran in fields with yaks and mastiffs. The rhythm of life was anchored by the pastoral cycles. Food was carefully apportioned and eaten together, everyone was family.

The arrival of Chinese army cars one day in 1959 changed everything.

In the wake of the deadly Tibetan Uprising, he escaped to India through the Himalayas to start over as a refugee. One of only 13 survivors out of 300 travellers, he spent the next few years in America, experiencing the excesses of the Woodstock generation before reforming in Europe.

Now in his 70s and a leading monk at the Samye Ling monastery in Scotland - the first Buddhist centre in the West - Lama Yeshe casts a hopeful look back at his momentous life. From his learnings on self-compassion and discipline to his trials and tribulations with loss and failure, his poignant story mirrors our own struggles.

Written with erudition and humour, From a Mountain in Tibet shines a light on how the most desperate of situations can help us to uncover vital life lessons and attain lasting peace and contentment.

This is a wonderful story and the narrator does an excellent job reading it. I listened it to it twice. Thank you, Lama Yeshe.

This is a wonderful look into Tibetan Buddhism as well as the sad abs first hand account of the invasion of Tibet by the Chinese. Lama Yeshe delivers a clear message perfect for our current times. It is a message of healing through expanding our awareness of mind, the cause of our trouble in the first place. He illustrates this with true accounts and obstacles he faced through this life. The take away...indeed the obstacles are the path. Thank you Yeshe Rinpoche! I felt as if I were with you in those early days in Tibet!!

I cried, I laughed out loud, the author and reader make it so relatable and comfortable, it's like I'm listening to a close friend telling his exciting life story. Thank you for sharing such deep life lessons in a vulnerable and entertaining way!

Loved it. Very inspirational. Yesterday Rinpoche tells his story of how he was a "hooligan" before deciding to start his transformation at the age of 36.

Inspirational life story + Buddhist teaching

A very moving book. My only wish is the editor would have stated Buddha's birthplace as Lumbini, Nepal not Gaya, India.
Other than that what a riveting book this was. Heart warming story.
Much respect to Yeshe Losal Rinpoche. 🙏

Such an inspiring spiritual journey. I would highly recommend, especially if you’re interested in Buddhism or meditation.

One of the best books I've read in a while, and it is for Buddhist and non-Buddhist alike.
What a life this man has lived.

NB: I must confess up front, I am a Buddhist, which may bias me. But I am a Zen Buddhist and this story is from the perspective of a refugee Tibetan Buddhist, and our practice is different. But this is not a Buddhist how-to; it's a gripping tale of a teenage boy kicked out of his homeland and his suffering caused by losing his home and family, and resisting mightily the expectation that he'd actually become a monk. Great story, superb narration. I'll be re-reading this one!
Spoiler: our hero finally finds himself and his place in the Buddhist world not in Tibet or India, but here in Colorado. So did I....

Unexpectedly wonderful

This is such a good book. It takes you through so much in the short 8.5 hrs. So much to think about. I will definitely return to this book at a later date. The narrator mr. John Sackville does an excellent job.
Thanks to everybody involved, JK.
