Acerca de esta escucha
Marion Blumenthal Lazan's unforgettable memoir recalls the devastating years that shaped her childhood.
Following Hitler's rise to power, the Blumenthal family - father, mother, Marion, and her brother, Albert - were trapped in Nazi Germany. They managed eventually to get to Holland, but soon thereafter it was occupied by the Nazis. For the next six and a half years the Blumenthals were forced to live in refugee, transit, and prison camps that included Westerbork in Holland and the notorious Bergen-Belsen in Germany. Though they all survived the camps, Walter Blumenthal, the father, succumbed to typhus just after liberation.
It took three more years of struggled and waiting before Marion. Albert, and their mother at last obtained the necessary papers and boarded ship for the UNited States. Their story is one of horror and hardship, but it is also a tory of courage, hope, and the will to survive.

Ten concentration camps. Ten different places where you are starved, tortured, and worked mercilessly. It's something no one could imagine surviving. But it is what Yanek Gruener has to face. As a Jewish boy in 1930s Poland, Yanek is at the mercy of the Nazis, who have taken over. Everything he has and everyone he loves have been snatched brutally from him. Henry Winkler, launched into prominence as “The Fonz” in the beloved Happy Days, has transcended the role that made him who he is. Brilliant, funny, and widely regarded as the nicest man in Hollywood (though he would be the first to tell you that it’s simply not the case, he’s really just grateful to be here), Henry shares in this achingly vulnerable memoir the disheartening truth of his childhood, the difficulties of a life with severe dyslexia, the pressures of a role that takes on a life of its own, and the path forward once your wildest dream seems behind you.

Thirteen-year-old Steven has a totally normal life (well, almost): he drums in the All-Star Jazz Band, has a crush on the hottest girl in school (who doesn’t know he’s alive), frequently finds himself sitting across from his school counselor (who bribes him with candy), and is constantly annoyed by his five-year-old brother, Jeffrey (who is cuter than cute). But when Jeffrey gets sick, Steven’s world is turned upside down as he is forced to deal with his brother’s illness, his parents’ attempts to keep the family in one piece, the band, overdue homework, girls, and of course, Dangerous Pie.

Historia
An “extraordinary” (New York Review of Books) novel based on the true story of how German war profiteer and factory director Oskar Schindler came to save more Jews from the gas chambers than any other single person during World War II. In this milestone of Holocaust literature, Thomas Keneally, author of The Book of Science and Antiquities and The Daughter of Mars, uses the actual testimony of the Schindlerjuden — Schindler’s Jews — to brilliantly portray the courage and cunning of a good man in the midst of unspeakable evil.

This, the only memoir published by a former Schindler's List child, perfectly captures the innocence of a small boy who goes through the unthinkable. Most notable is the lack of rancour, the lack of venom, and the abundance of dignity in Mr Leyson's telling. The Boy on the Wooden Box is a legacy of hope, a memoir unlike anything you've ever read.

In the summer of 1942, the Rabinowitz family narrowly escaped the Nazi ghetto in their Polish town by fleeing to the forbidding Bialowieza Forest. They miraculously survived two years in the woods—through brutal winters, Typhus outbreaks, and merciless Nazi raids—until they were liberated by the Red Army in 1944. After the war, they trekked across the Alps into Italy, where they settled as refugees before eventually immigrating to the United States.

As World War II raged, millions of young Jewish people were caught up in the horrors of the Nazis' Final Solution. Many listeners know of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi state's genocidal campaign against European Jews and others of so-called "inferior" races. Yet so many of the individual stories remain buried in time. Of those who endured the Holocaust, some were caught by the Nazis and sent to concentration camps, some hid right under Hitler's nose, some were separated from their parents, some chose to fight back. Against all odds, some survived. They all have stories that must be told.

Moving Account of Surviving the Holocaust
Marion Blumenthal Lazan provides a gripping account of her experience surviving the Holocaust. In spite of the dissappointment of several narrowly missed opportunities to immigrate to the safety of America, Marion and her family are able to survive starvation, torture, death camps, and disease. She has shared her story personally with over a million school children and adults to ensure that nothing similar ever happens again.

Short, compelling true story
I have read a lot of books about WW II and the Holocaust, both history and historical fiction. I really appreciate stories like this one that are based on facts but told in an engaging way without a lot of extra romance and fluff.

A Wonderful/Terrible Story
I am warmed and heartbroken, at the same time, by this story. The true facts are horrifying, and the ending is beautiful. I never learned about the holocaust in school. I first heard of it watching a documentary, and from there studied it on my own. Now, as a homeschool teacher, I want my children to learn and know this tragic part of history. I do not want these people to be forgotten. This particular story is so well written. It is very different, in my opinion, from Anne Frank's story. I really enjoyed the new perspective. I also appreciate how well written this one is for young people. The words tell the story without being too graphic, but still getting the truth across. My children will be reading this, as well as the Anne Frank story. I know it will add so much to their understanding of the holocaust. This book was captivating! The narrators voice was nice, and she did wonderfully with the German accent when it was needed. Great listen!

Now this is a Family Story
I enjoyed this book. I read a lot of the holocaust literature and some WWII history --this story was definitely one of the will to survive. The family was so close to being able to leave Nazi Germany but instead the story is an accounting is of their life of struggle for 6 years. It's a 2-1/2 hour read and I recommend

great first hand account of the Holocaust
exceptional job by the narrator and very good, while not overly graphic description of the Holocaust that also gave a very real accounts of what it was like in the concentration camps and for the Jews at this time.

Incredible story
This is an amazing story. The ability to turn such tragic events into a way to open eyes to the impact of prejudice is wonderful. The lessons learned from these events should never be forgotten and I commend the author for her willingness to speak on her personal experiences.

Heartfelt
Is wonderful narration of a truly touching, sad, and sometimes disturbing story. This story taught me much about the nazi invasion, the Jewish holocaust and a real understanding of how a family survived.

Quick yet very enlightening read
This covered the start of Hitler’s reign all the way through the struggles her family endured after the war. Very informative.

Compelling account
I read this story to my 8th graders when I was a teacher and recently listened to it on a road trip with my 3 children. Marian's story is one that should not be forgotten.
