Great First Entry

I've been following this author since he started writing and I'm really enjoying his first book. I like the narration, the characters are fun and funny and I am a fan of the genre. I hope to see more world building in the next book and some more minor struggles throughout.

awesome book

you get a book you think is a stinker and boom it transports you along fir the ride. this one was it.

Great Military Portal Fantasy

With no spoilers, this is probably in the top five list of this sub-genre. Characters are decent and the action is well done. I just wish book two was on Audible.

Fun

Not usually a fan of military books, pleasantly surprised with how this turned out. Lots of heart felt moments and interesting twists. Give this one a chance.

Boots

Witness how bright eyed boots even the "combat veterans" become boot level hopes of a brighter future. Buying into local issues and gradually fall victim to complacency.
All the tech advantages they had is burned in a grave and all the comm gear...

A world that grows more layered as it goes on

Halpin throws you into a new world. You'd best keep up because the action doesn't stop.

decent enough start, but devolves to crap.

so, this is a fairly basic thing. the ideas kinda cool... which is why there are dozens of other books based on the concept, and they largely do it better. thats not to say its bad, but its very middle of the road, on sale or for a loose credit when pickings seem slim.

... at least til the midway when we suddenly get evil mustache twirling dipshit, and at that point it was just to much and i quit. as said the story is ok, but this "twist" is just to banal and crap for me to bother keeping up.

other issues include how the author makes such big deals of things, like the abilities one character gets, only to seem to forget about then completely when he wants some ambush or surprise or other event to happen. plot convinent power incontenance. so yeah. i give up on it, and going to put up an honest review before the page is flooded with 5 stars saying how its the greatest thing ever.

Was a struggle to finish 5th chapter.....it never got better!
Ate the credit, but would not recommend unless you suffer for Insomnia!
