Can the Standings Survive the Supernova's Effects?

The concluding book of the ‘Supernova EMP’ series pits the Standing family against the self-appointed Harbormaster/President/King of North America, Gabriel. Because Gabe really loves the sound of his own voice, he talks long enough to give the Standings time to escape. Josh, and his fellow escapees, flee on the ocean, with Gabe in hot pursuit.

I had hoped the Gabe storyline would meet its demise in the first chapter of the book. Alas, his supervillain-y monologues continue throughout. I find the character to be extremely cliche. I assume a lot of Gabe's behavior is being enhanced by the supernova, but, boy, he is annoying.

The sections showing Josh, along with his family and the others, outrunning the Harbormen are my favorite parts. I like the ingenuity they employ in their efforts against their pursuers. I'd have liked the scenes showing the group's survival tactics and plans for the future occupy more of the book.

There is a plot element introduced to the story at the 11th hour. This is an interesting development Hamilton could have explored further. As it is, it makes the ending feel a bit rushed.

Overall, the book delivers an action-packed, suspense-filled and terrifying look at what could happen in a near-Earth supernova event.

Matt Weight’s narration is good. He does a really great job at differentiating the character voices. It might just be me, but his cadence and oddly-placed word emphasis don’t seem to be how people naturally speak.

This audiobook was given to me for free, at my request, and this is my voluntary opinion of it.

Blast from the past!

Young Storm continues to hold the focus in this final volume as a “blast from the past” surfaces to throw everyone into a tailspin. Aside from the untimely appearance and revealed identity, this bearer of bad news has even more tyrannical plans up his sleeve. Cornered, Maxine must divulge the secret she’s been guarding for many years. Josh is not immune from this turmoil. He and Storm are front and center in this incident, both have important decisions to make. As the old saying goes, not everyone can be saved. Capture, rescue, and escape. Loyalty, love, and family. Unexpected twists and turns, filled with consequence and emotion. This story touches on all the right points. A great story and a hearty recommendation. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Amazing

Would love more in thos series to tell us about their trials and tribulations when they leave the island. I am in love with these Characters and the story and just do not wish it to end! Narration was great. excellent voices for each character!

I came late to the party!

I received a free copy of 'Final End,' in exchange for an unbiased review of the book.

As noted, I came late to the party. This is my first experience with the Hamilton/Weight team's work.

Before giving a true review of the book, 'Final End,' I will need to spend the credits (gladly) and go back to learn the full story. I believe knowing the full history is important to give a decent review.

That being written, Hamilton writes a good descriptive story and Weight brings to life the nuances and variety of characters. I am sure after I catch up, I can give this book fives across the board.
