Resumen del Editor

Explore the captivating history of Fidel Castro.

Fidel Castro. Depending on whom you ask, the name can inspire revulsion, hatred, admiration, incredulity, awe, fear, or even love. His story is one that has changed the course of the history of the world and the face of the island of Cuba.

Castro was more than just a politician. His is a story that involves heroic voyages through turbulent oceans, affairs with young women from all over the world, spies, assassins, betrayal, conquest, riots, and battles. He was controversial, inimitable, cruel, courageous, stubborn, disrespectful of human rights, and utterly indomitable. But most of all, he never gave up. And this is his story.

Interesting Book

This book gives an accurate portrayal of Castro's life. As a Cuban who has suffered under his heavy hand, I have to say the author does a good job. Castro's regime after 40 years is as brutal as ever with numerous crackdown on political dissidents every day.

Impressive author

This is obviously a well-researched book. Sometimes a little "heavy" in depth and to extreme detail, however the detailed account of his younger years helps to understand the type of person he is! In power for over 30 years (longer than any contemporary leader) Quirk gives a good insight to how such a person strategically thinks and the effect of charisma.

Grab It

This is an excellent biography of one of the 20th centuries most important guerrilla leaders. After you read this book you'll wish as many Cubans and Cuban-Americans do that Fidel had just taken his law degree and gotten involved with a legitimate nonviolent political party in Cuba.

So Far So Good

As one of the thousands of the Cuban non-political middle class who had to flee Cuba leaving everything behind including family, who not only experienced and suffered Castro's rise to power first hand, and whose family and himself personally knew quite a few of the persons which the book makes reference to; I, would not edit anything in this book.

Its Good

It is funny how some outsiders can go to the island and leave "experts", simply because they spoke to a few people. You have to live many years in Cuba to really know how oppressive Castro's regime has been.
