Above average not amazing

I thought this was a really good followup but their are two relationships that are just kind of agonizing. Better writing on the story would have helped.

Somehow Geary always makes the right decisions strategically, dealing with non-combatants, and in motivating his fleet personnel. But, I'm ok with it. It's an idealized version of a hero, yet the overall story is compelling. u
I enjoy how relativistic effects and relative speed are explored in the battles. Although there is a lot of redundant exposition of the encounters.
One note to the narration editor: Changes in scene require a longer pause than between paragraphs. Otherwise a listener may not realize the captain's chair is not, in fact, in the bathroom. (-just hyperbole, not an actual event in the book.)

Shut Up

One thing I find ultimately ridiculous, Before every book in this series Jack Campbell walks around a room the Army calls a "I love my wall," The one statement sums it all up: "One of the endearing themes... Really? Isn't our job to decide how endearing a book might be?

Oh by the way, I really like this series and have listened to it several times. I just skip the ego rant.

A great listen !

This series is extremely enjoyable for folks who like military sci-fi I recommend it .

A strong sequel

I really enjoyed the first book in this series and Campbell has done a great job keeping the story as engaging in the follow up.

Better as a read

The perfomormances are off putting, and the narration really brings out the flaws in the dialog/writing.

The second book of the Lost Fleet series, Fearless offers more of the same military SciFi. I liked this one less than the previous book, partly because the novelty of the relativistic space battles is wearing off and that Campbell's efforts to deepen the character relationships didn't feel very accomplished.

I was also a bit surprised that after some foreshadowing in the first book, not very much happened regarding the larger world building plot in this book. After seeing that this series now contains 14 books I'm doubtful I'll read more of them in the hopes of revealing the larger plot.

Meh

Narrator is awesome. The rest is a hot mess. I got all of these on a major sale. Even still, a waste of money. "Captain" John Geary reveals he's a weak, poor excuse for a man, much less a commanding officer. Author reveals simp tendency as his strong female captain shows she's a butch progressive who won't submit to her husband. Yep -- like all modern women, she'll submit to her boss, but marry her and she'll treat you like a floor mat.

Too much of usual stuff

Only reason vice president is in these books, just provide a love interest for main character
To make her useful author make Jack and everyone around stupid, so she would be able to point it out
I would say around 30% of this book is relationship related
As usual Jack is allowing people trying to make problems for everyone do whatever they want, because he is so "good"
This is leading to problems later

Basically main character is a flat caricature of a knight in shining armor

Had to quit the book and series half way

As mentioned in my review of the first book, I was looking for another series after The Expanse series. The first book was tolerable yet over simplified, but unfortunately, book two just unraveled into cardboard, cookie cutter interfaces between weak characters that were just ridiculous. The great descriptions of the battles and military movement in space could not hold it all together. I will be off to find something much more well written. Would say that this series is more geared towards teenagers than adults, given the poorly written dialogue.
