Resumen del Editor

The Amazon Charts bestselling series continues as ruthless ecoterrorists, heavily armed miners, and cold-blooded drug smugglers clash in the Appalachians, where air marshal Seth Walker is investigating a mysterious plane crash.

A commuter flight has fallen from clear skies over West Virginia, its wing sheared off at twenty thousand feet. Air marshal Seth Walker is called to the mountains of Appalachia to investigate. But what he stumbles into is a ground war as unpredictable and combustible as a mason jar full of nitroglycerin.

Before he can even start searching for what might have downed the plane, Walker finds himself caught in the confounding - and deadly - cross fire between drone-deploying ecoterrorists, unstable frackers, ruthless drug smugglers, and armed miners pushed to the breaking point.

The escalating mystery takes a personal turn as Seth gets closer to the truth about the money, power, and politics motivating everyone involved - including those Seth believed he could trust. Can he dodge the danger lurking in every hill and holler long enough to discover what may be the biggest threat of all?

A Good yarn and race against time thriller

Our electrical engineer hero. ( Mcgiver with
Radio Shack help) is once again in a race to
stop the perpetrators of evil. This time it is the
evil application of high tech drones. Likeable characters and a nice narration effort make the journey enjoyable.

a sequel

I preferred the first novel. I felt bogged down by the technical details but looking forward to the 3rd book. I love the narrator's voice but the pace was a bit slow. I love how the audible app (android) allows me to precisely customize the pace!

Better than the first

I thought that the first story in this series was great. But False Horizon was even better. Plenty of action with first rate narration. There is just enough explanation of the technology involved to make it interesting without it becoming boring. The author also keeps the plot moving along at a quick pace. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

Preposterous Technical, But Exciting Action!

Big fossil fuel companies fighting each other in the modern world of climate change hysteria, use military type drones to do each other in, for their shrinking energy market.

New Seth Walker Book is a Fun Action Read

This thriller is full of action sequences and characters that kept my interest through-out the entire book. Plus, I got to learn a lot about drones that I didn’t know before.

Thoughts:

False Horizons is a book full of action and perfect for those who enjoy tense moments. I’ll be honest, when I first started reading I only expected action toward the end and maybe a moment in the middle, but was pleasantly surprised when the action started fairly early on and continued through-out the entire book. Each action sequence was descriptive, well thought-out, and unique, but there are also moments in between the action where the characters regroup, rethink, and discuss what may be going on and what their next step may be providing a moment for your heart to stop beating so fast. However, all this action can also come at a cost and not every character is always safe.

The characters, both main and secondary, are well written. While the main character is Seth Walker, my favorite was Sheriff Heather Simon, who was capable, resourceful, and likeable. It’s easy to write a sheriff as someone difficult the main character has to work with or someone who puts up roadblocks, but in False Horizons Sheriff Simon is a person you would like to know in real life, someone with a neighborly demeanor who treats everyone with respect.

My only issue I did have with the book was at the beginning when the story referenced events or people in Seth’s life without any context. For example, in Chapter 1, someone named Emma is referenced, but we aren’t told if she is his wife, daughter, or past client. I started with book 2, so my knowledge is limited to only False Horizons. However, none of these events or individuals play a major role in this book so once I got past the first couple of chapters this issue did not pop-up again for me.

Thank you to the author and GoodReads for the opportunity to review the book, which I won in a GoodReads Giveaway.

Twisted plot, but still a satisfying mystery

Coal mining, oil fracking, protesters, corruption (imagine that), super-smart drones. There's a lot of death in this book, so set your teeth and get our armor on. Not sure what the title means, possibly about flying, possibly about politics. Seth is a good character, and he learns some important lessons here besides solving the mystery.

An Okay Story With Good and Bad Points

After reading the first book in this series, I took a chance and got both the book and audiobook for the second installment. I am not so sure I will be doing so in the future.

As for the story itself, I did like it. It had some good action sequences and I enjoyed the overall premise of the story. That said, the writer, Mr. Reid, does fall down at times when he detours into minutiae over and over again, causing me to want to drift off and loose interest. My suggestion would have been to streamline the story at these points and make it flow better, which would have not sacrificed the story. I was also unhappy with how the story ended and felt it suddenly rushed to an end after dragging somewhat, leaving an unsatisfactory conclusion. As for the narrator, well....I found him to be flat and monotone, which added to the desire to sleep when I go to the aforementioned scenes when the story drags. I actually did fall asleep a few times.

So, my overall thought, it was okay, not great. I do intend to read the third book in the series, but will bypass an audio version so I can skip over the unnecessary detail if it should arise, something which is difficult to do when listening.
