Definitely worth a listen
This book was read by the author usually not good but did an excellent job of emphasizing things i had missed in the text version. Audio quality had some hiccups but annunciation and voices were both very good

A great new fantasy series.
I bought this immediately after the author explained what it was about at an event. I ended up enjoying this audiobook far more than I anticipated. I had some reserves about the author being the narrator but he did a great job.
If you're looking for a new series to start you just found it.

This is how you give out roses
An author narrating his own work is usually worth clicking on the "sample" (Go ahead!), and he seemed to be a good narrator, so I gave this a shot.
Todd Fahnestock is both a great author and a great narrator. His writing is tight and delightful, the characters are fascinating, dialog is crisp, and it's easy to tell which characters are talking. I have thousands of fantasy books, this one had many new ideas for me. Such as one unexpected splashdown and the aftereffects.
There are perhaps some missed opportunities. For example, one scene has a character traversing a tunnel of treacherous traps she's familiar with, and it's done with delightful grace. Narrator Jeff Hays likely would have likely done a more drolly comedic take on the amusing deadliness of the traps here. It's all still done well, though.
Highly recommended.
