Resumen del Editor

The hero of The Poet and The Scarecrow is back in this thriller from number one New York Times best-selling author Michael Connelly. Jack McEvoy, the journalist who never backs down, tracks a serial killer who has been operating completely under the radar - until now.

Veteran reporter Jack McEvoy has taken down killers before, but when a woman he had a one-night stand with is murdered in a particularly brutal way, McEvoy realizes he might be facing a criminal mind unlike any he's ever encountered.

Jack investigates - against the warnings of the police and his own editor - and makes a shocking discovery that connects the crime to other mysterious deaths across the country. Undetected by law enforcement, a vicious killer has been hunting women, using genetic data to select and stalk his targets.

Uncovering the murkiest corners of the dark web, Jack races to find and protect the last source who can lead him to his quarry. But the killer has already chosen his next target, and he's ready to strike.

Terrifying and unputdownable, Fair Warning shows once again why "Michael Connelly has earned his place in the pantheon of great crime fiction writers" (Chicago Sun-Times).

Reseñas de la Crítica

"There is no better news than a new book from the great Michael Connelly...Fair Warning brings back reporter Jack McEvoy, a character I always liked every bit as Harry Bosch or Mickey Haller or Renee Ballard...Connelly [is] at the very top of his game." (Mike Lupica, New York Daily News)

"Connelly is in terrific form here, applying genre conventions to the real-life dangers inherent in the commercial marketing of genetics research." (Marilyn Stasio, New York Times Book Review)

"A truly terrifying thriller...[Jack McEvoy] has appeared in only two previous novels, but they are two of Connelly's best: The Poet and The Scarecrow. McEvoy makes it three for three with this riveting tale." (Bill Ott, Booklist starred review)

More Connelly Excellence!

I'm usually more of a Bosch & Haller fan than Macavoy, but I really enjoyed this one. To me, it was short and sweet like Connelly's "The Overlook". Fast paced but easy to follow. And...the interview afterwards is worth the full price of the download. Not to sell the book short because it was really great. But knowing Connelly so well from reading his stuff, watching his stuff, and having had the pleasure to meet and speak with him...hearing him discuss his process is always a special extra treat.

Another solid entry by Michael Connelly

Jack McAvoy returns to solve another murder mystery. This one is pretty interesting and involves the genetic testing industry and how it can be used and abused. It will make you think twice before you send your DNA swab off to some lab to be analyzed. The book moves along at a good pace and keeps the reader hooked from beginning to end. The narration is also good. I recommend this book to all Michael Connelly fans and to all who enjoy a good mystery or thriller.

Cutting edge investigation

Current genetic lack of regulation and a serial predator.
Love the interview at the end.

Excellent Michael Connelly

As a former journalist, I love this series. Can't wait for the next one. Enjoyed the conversation at the end. Support local journalism. They're the watchdogs. Let's keep them fed.

A home run

I just love this book. It's well-written and storyline is very compelling and thought-provoking. Left unregulated, DNA is going to make today's privacy issues pale in comparison.

Generous with my four stars

This book was, in my view, somewhere between three and four stars. The fact that I wanted to keep listening pushed it to four. The story was OK. A former crime story writer, now doing consumer protection pieces, finds a way to meld the two. We were teased at the beginning about a story the writer was working on where a fraud expert was teaching the trade to those wanting to enter the business. I was disappointed that we never heard how that story worked out. This story is a combination of DNA being used to target and murder and consumer fraud committed by those associated with DNA companies. I read The Poet, The Scarecrow and The Narrows more than ten years ago but didn't connect the protagonists to those novels because, well, I'm old and forgetful. But I will always read a Connelly novel because I think he's one of the best authors around (and a fellow UF alumnus). He's an author you can go to and, although he likely won't knock your socks off, you'll like the book. I didn't like the dual narrators here. Wasn't necessary. I expect we'll see more of Jack and Rachel and I'm OK with that. The books in this series have been good, not great. I'm waiting for great. But spend a credit on this one. You could do worse.

SUPERB

Jack is obviously a passionate individual, and this passion for the story gets on the way, by his own internal admission, to his need for meaningful and healthy relationships. Like a lot of us, we gravitate toward people with similar passions, however if these passions are not complementary to our own, it would be difficult to sustain a healthy relationship. I am curious to explore how Rachel and Jack, as a team, could successfully accomplish a future partnership.
