"Pharmacology" is a term that is commonly used to describe the study of the effects of chemicals on living organisms, especially humans. Pharmacists are trained to dispense medications and provide advice about their use, while a family nurse practitioner (FPP) specializes in caring for patients and administering medication. In order to practice as a FNP you must be licensed by your states medical board and accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). To become an FNP you need at least 4 years of college education with either pre-med, biology major or nursing degree. The ANCC will review your application for accreditation online at no cost.

Family nurse practitioners are responsible for providing, coordinating, or managing all aspects of healthcare services to individuals, families or groups. They are trained to provide treatment in the following areas: physicals, health promotion, assessment and diagnosis of common health problems, immunizations, prescriptions for medications, disease management and treatment. The FNP functions under the direction of the physician and is able to prescribe medications when working in collaboration with a physician. Family Nurse Practitioners are trained in critical thinking skills which make them competent in treating patients without relying solely on diagnostic testing.

In order to become a family nurse practitioner you must have completed a Bachelor's degree program in nursing from an accredited school. The graduate nurse must have successfully completed the National Council Licensure Examination. After you have obtained your degree you will need to have your license to practice in your state.

Nurses are often the first point of contact for a patient in need of medical advice. Nurses must have a strong knowledge of what to offer patients, and how to do so safely. Part of that knowledge is knowing medications, especially pharmacology. Understanding what medications are out there helps nurses know which ones they should be asking patients about when they come in for their appointment!

Very general information on medications. Not really targeted to nurse practitioners. The NP scope of practice as described in this book is not accurate.

Distracting voice changes and incorrect pronunciations

Please, I beg you. Hire narrators who can properly pronounce the medical terminology and medications. Offer the narrator some water, or honey lemon tea— it sounds like she’s coming down with laryngitis.
