Resumen del Editor

Basseva Seneor has choices, but none are good. She can choose baptism to save herself from the brutality of the Inquisition, but that means giving up the man she loves. Or, she can leave her homeland and never see her family again. In medieval Spain, after the Edict of Expulsion was signed into law in March 1492, there were few options for a Jew.

As the daughter of a powerful man who wielded much influence with Ferdinand and Isabella, Basseva thought she was safe. But without warning, she is arrested, accused of a capital offense, and is thrust into a terrifying world of lies, bigotry, torture, and execution. Expulsion is an historical novel about the horrors of the Spanish Inquisition, the injustice of the Edict of Expulsion, and one woman’s brave attempt to survive them both.

I would tag this as YA fiction.

I felt the story was more suited for a YA audience. Also found the narrator rather irritating; her accent changed throughout the narrative and her presentation was very stilted.

Not worth it

The story did not have much depth and the narrator was over theatrical in reading the different people. It is not really about the Inquisition, I had hoped for more historical information but it rested on a rather dull story. Cant recommend it for any reason, very hard to finish.

Sherry V. Ostroff Does It Again!

Another wonderfully enlightening novel by talented Sherry V. Ostroff, this one set in Spain during the time of the Inquisition. Through the eyes of her young narrator, Basseva, we learn so much about a little known period in history: the perils, customs, people, etc. Ostroff’s writing is lush and vivid, making you feel you are there, experiencing both the horrors as well as the beauty of this wrenching time period. The narration by Savanna Kenny further draws the reader in with her lilting tone and range of expressiveness. A terrific listen and a great way to learn about history.
