Resumen del Editor

Pete Walker died...again...and again...and again....

The very profitable pharmaceutical behemoth Forever Life, Inc. was ready to start Human trials using a new wonder drug that was going to liberate the world. Every disease known - cured. Every handicap or birth defect - eliminated. You don't like your hair texture? Your eye color? Skin color? Height? One small pill taken at night, a short drug induced coma, and several days later - a new you. The problem was that Pete feared this new pill would lead to the extinction of humankind. He had to stop Forever Life at any cost. Any. Cost. Which, included his life...again...and again...and again....

Fantastic Book

I expected something a little different (expected the same guy to keep dying and coming back), but this was really good and interesting too. I loved the story and all of the different clones. Sometimes they really had me cracking up!! Definitely recommend this book.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Great sci-fi book with an ok narrator

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was a very cool sci-fi story with a great plot and interesting characters. The narrator was ok, if a bit quiet and nasally at times. All in all, the story was interesting enough to keep my attention the entire book.

Mr. Jones and me look into the future

OMG! WTF! Ok, so this is not so much a reaction to the book as it is a commentary on the author’s seemingly love affair with those three-letter exclamations. Spanning multiple characters across the length of the book, OMG and WTF were sprinkled in everywhere. I’m not sure why the author felt like using it so much, but after a while their overuse started to be little pinpricks, pulling me out of the story.

Also, there were a few “Really? Come on!” moments in the book. The main character, Kent, never leaves his apartment. I’m not sure why this bothered me but it did. The love interest of the Kent’s prior clone, Becca, falls in love with Kent almost immediately, and a group of clones decide to have an incestual orgy for no reason other than the males in the group realize their junk is oversized.

Ok rant-mode over. Like the author, I’m a software developer, and a big cyberpunk fan. I geeked out on the technical aspects included generously in the story, including AI, androids, and advanced tech. The plot was engaging. I liked the overarching threat to the world integrated into the plot, and wanted to stick around and find out what happened in the end.

Lastly, Mr. Jones gave really detailed descriptions of the food eaten, and they made my mouth water. Mission accomplished, Mr. Jones, if that’s what was your intended result.

Emily Lawrence did a commendable job reading the story. She had a lot of challenges, including scenes with MANY characters talking, so the range of voices she had to perform was maxed out and she pulled it off brilliantly. I liked how she performed the AI and android voices. At times, her voice did get a little nasally, but overall I enjoyed her performance.

The title of this review is a line from the author's namesake song by the Counting Crows. I felt it was obligatory to include. You are welcome.

This audio book was gifted to me by the author in exchange for an unbiased review.

Great story, rough start

I was given a free copy of this audiobook and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The story started rough, there was a lot to fill in to set the stage for all the players. About an hour in, it began to really gel and the whole picture became clear. The idea is great and the story will grip you. The science was solid, theoretically. There were a few characters that I feel were just thrown in as filler and in the end had no real effect on the over all story, but their parts were brief and minimal.
The idea of the cloning and the resultant "evil plot" was very well laid out and interesting. The potential for more stories based in this world the author created is great. Not just "what happens next" but " what happened when. 20 years of backstory and a completely changed world. I would read more.
The narrator was an issue for me at first. She uses a voice that, while not soft and hard to hear, is essentially a whisper. It can kind of lull you into a trance and you suddenly realize that you stopped listening. This may just be me, so don't base your decision fully on my words. Listen to the sample and judge for yourself.

I liked it!

Started a little rough but I really enjoyed it. Narration was ok, but the story caught me and more than made up for it. Had good suspense and characters sad that we didn't get more from the other clones. Would recommend to others.
