Outside my comfort zone

I'm not a fan of calling a lover Daddy, and that ruined the book for me. The premise of this book was outside my comfort zone in that regards. I thought the narrator was very talented and had distinguishable voices for the various characters. The story had some unexpected twists, which I appreciated. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review.

Hot chemistry! Lola Ray and Mack end up being the best thing for one another. Really enjoyed this!

Steamy

This was an extremely hot story!! Donovan Kane did an amazing job with the narration. This author was new to me and I can not wait to listen to more of her books!! I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Interesting but...

The story was ok. Toooo much Bdsm for me. Some parts got boring. hum...

Entertaining

Steam: 3.5/5. There are some books you go back to because they are scorching guilty pleasures. For me, this book will not be in that lineup. To be honest, the eroticism wasn’t very memorable. A tad more angst for both characters would’ve given the erotic scenes more impact.

Originality: Fair. I give the author credit for trying to bring more substance to an erotic novel. The blurb says it all.

Male voice: Great male narration.

Female voice: Very lacking. It takes a lot to keep a listener’s attention. IMO, this narrator’s male and female voices are too similar.

Overall: Fair. Not really a keeper. I wish I hadn’t paid full price. But I would recommend if on sale.

I don't think I could compare this to another book. Don't feel that this question would be fair to either author.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Mr. Kane definitely had a voice that would make you think of a daddy but not sure that's what we wanted here. I think his voice was great for Lola Ray's father but not so much for Mack. When I think of Mack, I don't think of a man who's past the half century mark and that's what Mr. Kane's voice makes me think of - he makes me think of my own dad and then I just go "ew". He does a good job with Lola Ray but you won't think young and sexy.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Like I stated above, I had that "ew" feeling here. I don't think that when the author wrote this book that she wanted the reader to think of their own father while the narrator was "playing" the part of what I'm assuming is supposed to be a very sexy man. Did I have an extreme reaction? Other than the "ew" moments, no.

Any additional comments?

This story is pure fantasy but if we're trying to get the feeling of this being a really hot and erotic story than I don't think that Mr. Kane did justice to the characters. I don't have anything against his voice and I'm sure he would be perfect for another book but, for me, I don't think he did justice to what the author was trying to bring to life.

Ms. Beaumont creates a young woman who wants to get out of her current situation. I'm sure that her hormones are giving her nudges when she sees an employee/friend of her dad's. Her dad is a man who takes out his dislike on his daughter - something that happens in a lot of families. But only you can decide if it's her situation or her heart that gives birth to a relationship.

Would I listen to this book again? Probably not since I think of my own parent as I listen and it just gives me the shivers to even think of Mr. Kane as Mack. Would I read the book? Once I get the idea of my dad out of my head, yes I would probably read the book so that I could get a different perspective of what our author has written.

An erotic tale of love and lust

Hot, hot and even hotter. Erotic to the extreme, but with a plausible backstory that made it more than a porn flick.

This is a non bias ARC review.
I don't know where to begin with this review. The story line was a little disturbing to me. Lola Ray is this sweet innocent 18/19 yr old. Her love interest is Mac. Mac has a past and is starting over in the hometown where he grew up. Lola Ray has fantasy about Mac. Mac is into S&M. Lola Ray's daddy is physically and mentally abusive towards her. Why would she submit herself into a relationship were she is punished & tortured for his pleasure? I don't understand that. Also why would you call the man you are intimate with daddy and still called your "real father" daddy. That was kind of gross to me. There is more I could write that disturbed me about this book, but it's too much.
As for the narrative, Donovan Kane does the reading. He has a very soothing pleasant voice. I don't feel he was the correct choice for this book. For me, I pictured Mac to be in his early to mid 40's. Donovan Kane sounds a lot older. So to me Mac was in his 60's. I keep trying to picture Mac as a 40 yr old, but I couldn't. To me, a 60 year old and a 18/19 yr old is a bit of a stretch for me.

Maddox and Lola Ray!

Lola Ray is an 18 year old student who has been raised by her controlling father since the death of her mother. The only bright spot in her life is Maddox, her father’s friend and their next door neighbor.

Maddox is an ex-con who is grateful to Lola Ray’s father for giving him a job at his construction company after he was released from jail. He doesn’t want to do anything that would destroy his relationship with her father or get him back in jail. Lola is doing whatever she can to tempt Maddox until he finally gives in but what about her father?

These two belong together as Lola Ray wants someone to look after and protect her which is exactly what Maddox wants to do and the chemistry between them is undeniable.

This is the first story I have listened to by Donovan Kane and he did a good job of bringing the story to life.

I read the book when it came out the listened to the audio book. I'm not sure which one I enjoyed more. The story has a nice build up to the final conflict but does not lack in steamy scenes (at all 😉) between Lola Ray and Mack. This is kind of a darker romance (but not too dark) so if your not open to this type of story line this book may not be for you. I did enjoy the story, in both the ebook format and the audio format.

This is the first audio book I've listened to that was narrated by Donovan Kane, I wasn't sure in the beginning but I think he did a good job with both parts.
