Resumen del Editor

Cozy fans and animal lovers alike won't be able to keep their paws off Dog Dish of Doom. Laugh-out-loud funny, E.J. Copperman's series debut is "lots of fun" (Library Journal, starred).

Kay Powell wants to find that break-out client who will become a star. And she thinks she's found him: His name is Bruno, and he has to be walked three times a day.

Kay is the Agent to the Paws, representing showbiz clients who aren't exactly people. In fact: they're dogs. Bruno's humans, Trent and Louise, are pains in the you-know-what, and Les McMaster, the famous director mounting a revival of Annie, might not hire Bruno just because he can't stand them.

This becomes less of an issue when Trent is discovered face down in Bruno's water dish with a kitchen knife in his back. Kay's perfectly fine to let the NYPD handle the murder, but when the whole plot seems to center on Bruno, her protective instincts come into play. You can kill any people you want, but you'd better leave Kay's clients alone.

PLEASE find a better narrator!

Ms. Romano' narration was, to say the least, distracting. She had odd breaks, rhythms and accentuated words. I think that if I decide to continue this series, I'll do so by reading rather than listening to it.

A Delightful, Fun FiRst Book in a New Series!

In Dog Dish of Doom by E.J. Copperman, Kay Powell, Agent to the Paws, represents Bruno, a gifted dog trying out for the role of Sandy in the new Broadway revival of Annie. The only problem? Bruno has an abrasive human who tries to dominate everyone around him, and the producer, Les McMaster, is determined to include in the contract that Trent and Louise Barkley are not allowed to attend any rehearsals, with Kay's being the one to take Bruno to all of them. This infuriates Trent, who blows up, but Kay copes with him. The next morning, Kay reads in the newspaper that Trent was found stabbed in the back, with his face in Bruno's water bowl.

Events transpire to convince Kay that the murder is somehow related to Bruno. People have been trying all kinds of manipulations to get hold of the dog. He's a nice dog, but why would anyone kill to get him? Detective Rodriguez refuses to admit the possibility that Bruno is the central figure in the case, so Kay feels the need to convince her of Bruno's involvement.

I had a thoroughly fun time listening to Dog Dish of Doom. The storyline had plenty of interesting turns, with the plot's holding fascinating details. The solution was really clever as well, with various details that seemed minor coming together to add up to a strong conclusion. It did a good job of making us keep changing our guesses about the identity of the murderer and who is trying to capture Bruno.

The book does a creative job of drawing the various characters and making us interested in them. We connect with Kay, who narrates the book, and want to see her succeed. Her parents are a lot of fun, being aging performers who particularly specialize in cruise ship entertainment. We also find ourselves questioning the other characters as to whom you can trust. The book does a good job of making us wonder about the nature of each character.

And Bruno, along with Kay's own two dogs, are very delightful. The dogs come across as real, legitimate characters who provide some comic relief and have significant roles in the book. Bruno seems so special and cute as he acts in the play and loves affection from those around him.

Christy Romano performs the audiobook of Dog Dish of Doom, doing a strong job of bringing this book to life. She seems like a realistic version of Kay, who serves as the book's narrator, using good accents, timing, and character voices.

I really enjoyed my experience listening to Dog Dish of Doom. This book was clever in its general premise of an agent for performing animals, offering a lot of promise for fun books in future books in the series. I really appreciated this delightful book and give it five stars!

Couldn’t finish

I have really enjoyed E. J. Copperman’s stories but this one was just not for me. I listened until she list the dog and then just couldn’t go on. It was just too predictable and just a little bit stupid.

Meh

I wanted a easy to listen to light type of a book. I like Cooperman‘s ghost series so I thought I’d try this. This is not nearly as good. It was hard to finish but I did. I would not recommend it.

Another fun listen!

Another easy to listen to, “cozy” mystery by E. J. Copperman. I wish there were more.

Another Good Series

Like Copperman's other books, Dog Dish of Doom is funny and entertaining with lots of twist and turns. The characters are realistic and well developed. The plot is well written with a steady pace and humor. I look forward to the next book.

Dogs Dish of Doom

Fun. Relaxing. Quirky. Good bedtime story. I liked the protagonist, and the reader's use of character accents.

So so

It was OK, but not as good as the haunted house, mysteries. The narrator was excellent.

Wasn't sure but ended up loving it

When I saw the titles in this series I was hesitant because I've had bad experiences with animal-related detective novels lol But the series was really good! It was fun and clever and funny and a complete joy to read!
