Jake, a cruel and abusive husband, inexplicably sends Nan and her son to a Western dude ranch. There, they recover from their mistreatment, and meet Ben, the ranch owner. Ben is a Western man schooled by his faithless ex-wife in the ways of human unhappiness. Nan and Ben realize that they have much in common, and that they share a mutual attraction. However, Nan still has hopes that Jake can reform. But when Nan and her son return home, Jake's hostility drives the boy to attempt suicide. Nan gets the message that it's time to leave Jake and find a new life. This book will give hope to anyone in an abusive, silencing relationship.

Only hope it gives is that it ends!

This was by far the worst audible book I have gotten. The story sounded interesting, but it certainly was not. It could have been told on 1 CD, but instead it was dragged out by excessive description and enough metaphors to make you ill. Maybe the author really wanted to be a poet... This book cannot give hope to anyone in an abusive relationship. First of all, it must take place in the 60's. It is very out of date. I only listened to it because I bought it and it is better than radio ads. I just fast forwarded often. If you happen across this book - don't bother.
