Loved it!

Where does Desiring the Doctor rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of best. I've have to go back and get the others in the series and then hope there are more coming.

What did you like best about this story?

Good plot, characters I came to care about. Very nice resolution.

Have you listened to any of James Killavey’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I don't think so but I do like him in this one.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did...one car trip.

Any additional comments?

A word of caution. There are two loving but rather detailed sex scenes. Essential to the story, I thought, and certainly not porno but....not for the prudish or those easily embarrassed by sex.

Not For Me

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Not really. I seem to be alone in this, but the narration and audio quality were awful.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Desiring the Doctor?

I couldn't finish it.

What didn’t you like about James Killavey’s performance?

It was tinny and difficult to understand sometimes. I have listened to other narrators with thick accents but something about this one did not work for me.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Probably not.

Any additional comments?

I had trouble finishing it. I gave a generous four stars for story since the narration prevented me from continuing to listen.

Good story. Likable people.

What does James Killavey bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Nice voice. Distinct character voices.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Desiring the Doctor

Any additional comments?

Looking forward to more like this.

Heartfelt and Surprisingly True to Life Romance

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would, if only for lines like "...when he looked at her, he needed to fight down about a dozen erections." Gold.

Would you listen to another book narrated by James Killavey?

James Killavey's voice is fascinating. I found that the cover for the audiobook was very pretty (it is what attracted me in the first place), and that Killavey's voice was wonderfully deep and sonorous, but couldn't help but feel that the cover art, and by extension, the story, were incongruous with the narrator's voice. It reminded me of a very masculine, deep version of Bernie Sanders' voice, if he were a robot. That is to say, the accent sounded like Vermont-speak, and the rhythm and intonation incredibly metric. This was fine except when it came to the 'love scenes'. They felt a little clunky and un-romantic, un-sexy, as though the narrator couldn't put in the depth of emotion they deserved.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I really felt what the girls were going through, and I'm sure many people can relate to their troubles and character.
There were surprising moments in the book; this may have been because I haven't read the previous books in the series. However, when I learned, 2.5+ hours into the audiobook, that this is a post-apocalyptic Earth in which children were put in vaults for 100 years, I couldn't help but feel blindsided!! For a moment, it felt as though I were reading Fallout 4 fanfiction. Which would have been very cool, if that is what this were supposed to be. If not, and especially if this subject hasn't been delved into in previous books, I want to know much, much more. I mean, woah.

The doctor is easy to desire!

--I received a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review

This was a fun quick listen. While it's #3 in the series, it does stand alone. I do think there is probably some background that would give you some information as to what was happening prior, but the story worked. Bianca and Rachel fled abusive marriages and ended up in a small town looking to start over. Bianca ended up working for the James the town doctor, and they fell in love. James is a very warm and caring man. The story has some hot scenes, and the ending sounds like there may be more to come.

James Killavey was the narrator. While his voices were distinct and the pace good, he is not my favorite of male narrators, always lilting up at the end of each sentence. The overall story was very entertaining.

Good romance

Would you listen to Desiring the Doctor again? Why?

Because a couple of the scenes got both me and my hubby..how shall I say this...interested in heading to the bedroom as soon as we got home.

Who was your favorite character and why?

James, doctor...strong but with a soft and very caring side.

Which character – as performed by James Killavey – was your favorite?

All good.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

See first statement. :)

Any additional comments?

This was the third book in the series so it took us a while to figure out the "world" it was in. By "we," I mean my husband and I. We listened together in the car. It's a good romance but he actually liked it...especially the "explicit parts." Not porn, by any means, but rather detailed, in a loving sort of way...hot stuff!

A review

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

The narration of this book was tough for me. The narrator at time sounded like an announcer and the voicing didn't change enough during different scenes to reflect what was happening in the plot.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The setting was interesting. Ultimately it was part science fiction with some historical flavor. I wish this had been more clear at the start of the novel.

Would you be willing to try another one of James Killavey’s performances?

Unfortunately not.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I felt for the heroine and definitely found that she deserved her HEA.

Mismatched

What would have made Desiring the Doctor better?

This is an excellent example of a mismatched narrator to the romance genre.

What was most disappointing about Jane B. Night’s story?

The narrator. Even though this was short story, it felt a great deal longer. The story wasn't great, but it lost value due to the mismatched narrator.

Would you be willing to try another one of James Killavey’s performances?

Definitely not as a narrator for any genre which calls for emotion. Mr. Killavey has a great announcer voice and style. I can picture him saying..."THE SHADOW KNOWS".

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

disappointment

Not for me

How could the performance have been better?

I didn't enjoy this audiobook. The story was quite dull and the narration was emotionless and distracting. I found it difficult to listen to the end of this book as the narration spoiled the story for me.
