an excellent play on cards

I'm not much for deck builders in general, but this one was recommended and was surprisingly good. The characters are well thought out and grow with the story. Soundbooth Theater once more does an amazing job with the voice acting, love those guys.

Crime family meets TCGs

Yep, that's what it is and I'm here for it. I love stories about crime families with an honor code, and those who strive to keep others in line with it. The mechanics of the card game actually feel fairly true to life, where the newest sets of cards are the strongest, and certain combinations are just broken. I love the way the characters are written, with dimensions that you learn as they get to know each other better. The build up of various parties plotting for power is beautifully done, and just when you think something is finally going to work out, something else happens,

I was skeptical

How good can card table top story be as a book? Well as John Stovall showed me - marvelous. The stats are not all over the place. It’s enticing story and the pacing and development are great.

the bad guy was obvious from practically the beginning

it was really stupid how nobody realized he was the bad guy. the main female character was really annoying for me I just couldn't stand her sorry. and it's great that he's in guns but sometimes he should have like a nightstick or something with them or a knife it would have been helpful in a lot of

The card system I have been hoping for

Written well, narrated well, cool magic system, modern day setting that feels pretty fluid.

I would recommend this to people who like Dungeon Crawler Carl.

Loved the gritty story and setting

A great mob themed Noir story with a dash of LitRPG card play system. Voice acting is top notch, augmenting the story and brining it to the next level.

What a ride

A grown up story darker with compelling characters and a great plot. I am a little shocked given the genre. The magic system (cards) were seamlessly woven into the story. The stats were infrequent enough not to be burdensome. I finished the book in nearly one go.

Very interesting antihero story a bit too much cussing

Very interesting story. The setting is amazingly detailed with lots of intrigue. I get the use of profanity for the circumstances but it gets really heavy and detracts from the ability to focus on the story sometimes. I do appreciate that even though other vises are common in the book that they are not glorified or focused on.
