A letdown after first book

I really loved the first book in this series. I love the idea the Author had when writing it and overall the story part of the second book wasn't half bad either. What I hate though, which put me off the whole book was the narration. I can't for the life of me understand why a female would narrate for a male protagonist. Especially one with such a feminine voice. The book is from Caleb's perspective so having a woman narrate kept throwing me for a loop it was awkward and made the novel unbelievable to me. I loved the first book and purchased this with excitement to continue with Caleb's journey only to be greatly disappointed by the narration choice.

solid 3.5 stars

Not bad - I imagine this series is targeted to the young adult demographic and it's been a long time since I fell into that one.
Wasn't a huge fan of some of the language and slang that was used, suited the characters, but just wasn't my cup of tea so I was never really drawn into the story or connected with the characters.

The plot is OK and the characters are interesting. For the right person, this will be an enjoyable story.

I'm not sure the narrator was the best choice for this book. She has reasonable inflections and has tried to give each character their own unique voice, but the voices were a little inconsistent and at times felt forced.

Narrator is a little uneven

This book has a different narrator than book one, and I am a little disappointed. Her reading is uneven, sometimes it flows smoothly and other times is stilted. The voices used for the characters seem to change accents from time to time, and that makes following the story more difficult. I have had to “rewind” many times to trace who is speaking. It is hard to be fully immersed into the story in this book.
