In a chilling blend of folk horror and twisting suspense, this modern masterpiece depicts isolation and dread within a small island community.
There's something in the water... On the edge of the Northern Atlantic lies a remote island. The islanders are an outwardly harmonious community—but all have their own secrets, some much darker than others. And when a strange disorder begins to infect them all, those secrets come to light. Ferry service fails and contact with the mainland is lost. Rumors begin to swirl as a temporary inconvenience grows into nightmarish ordeal. The fabric of the once tight-knit island is unnervingly torn apart—and whatever the cause, the question soon stops being how or why it happened, but who, if anyone, will survive.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Fletcher's suspenseful, atmospheric tale imagines a near future in which our world is in ruins... An adventure saga punctured by a gut-punch twist."—Entertainment Weekly on A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World
"[A] heart-and gut-wrenching tale of a post-apocalyptic world....A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World takes a memorable journey of loyalty and love and transforms it into an unraveling mystery of self-discovery and exploration....This is the story of trust and loyalty within a family, and finding your own pack-even if they're different from the pack you were born into."—Bookpage on A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World
"The hunt for Jess propels this story forward like a rocket, and Fletcher does a masterful job keeping the stakes high and the suspense crackling while still creating plenty of space for readers to get to know Griz and explore this fascinating not-quite-empty world. This unputdownable story has everything-a well-imagined post-apocalyptic world, great characters, incredible suspense, and, of course, the fierce love of some very good dogs."—Kirkus (starred review) on A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World
"Fletcher writes with an elegantly descriptive style, one that brings this melancholic world to bittersweet life....Whether it's the rusting remains of an amusement park, or the dusty floors of a tucked away sanctuary, Fletcher makes the reader feel like they're standing there, right beside Griz, desperate to find out where to go next."—Lightspeed on A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World
"A sharp, meditative exploration of family, loyalty, and humanity amid the lonely but beautiful wilderness of the end of the world-but with a gut punch you'll never see coming. You'll remember A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World long after you finish reading."—Peng Shepherd on A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World
"If you read one book this year, I beg you that this be the one. A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World will break your heart in all the right ways."—Nerd Daily on A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World
"Epic in scope, enthralling, and full of human warmth."—M.R. Carey on A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World
"This novel has everything I love about a story: fully realized characters, beautiful writing, and utterly believable, even frightening, world-building. I promise you're going to love it."—Louisa Morgan on A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World
"Fletcher's narrative...has a propulsive and engaging rhythm and should please fans of postapocalyptic dystopias, young adult and adult alike."—Booklist on A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World

I am not a fan of the horror genre. I'm not sure why I purchased this story.

The first third was wonderful, weaving between modern and ancient people and their respective stories. However, since horror isn't my favorite genre, I was less enthusiastic about the rest of the tale.

Started Well

there was alot that was hard to understand and the parts that were in between chapters? when was that why did the curse actually happen ? the ending could have been better. was that sig husband at the end ? why did some character ls like Walter John get infected then seem to become half normal again then infected again. I was a more difficult read for a contemporary book with all the Scottish terms. it was very foos though and scary but also had funny parts with Jamie and Malc. I wish it explained a littler more detail at the end.

the building up of character ls

I agree with other reviews who said it was too long and has some unimaginative aspects of the story. After all, most horror /supernatural stories have characters who do stupid things. That said, I did enjoy the atmosphere and did get some chills from it. Siobhan Redmond's reading was well done.

Creepy story

After A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World I expected more than a supernatural horror tale. This novel is Maeve Binchy’s version of Night of the Living Dead.

Disappointing

At first I wasn’t sure about the reader’s performance, by the end I loved her. The book is ho-hum. It’s too much like the walking dead to have much impact. One of my favorite books is Fletchers “A Boy and his Dog at the End of the World”. This was a bit disappointing, but not without entertainment merit.

Just Ok, Not as good as Fletcher’s other book.

the character development was great, I love the way he wrote about the dream states and there were just enough moments with the annoying characters to keep you on the edge of your seat and not cursing the story. I like the book, it was worth the money and apparently the only vegetation on the island is heather...

slow burn but a warmth worth waiting for

I loved the introduction, I really felt like I got to know the characters. When the action began it was creepy and unique. The narrator was amazing as well. My only disappointment was that there were a couple of chapters near the end that were cut off. I don't know how much was removed, but it was a bit distracting. Otherwise, great book.

loved it

After reading A Boy and His Dog at the End Of The World, I was very excited to give this a listen. the narrator was excellent! although there were distinct parts where you could hear her talking around a lozenge or something, but otherwise loved her narration.

The characters were pretty developed for the most part.

The story was unique and creative for sure, and I think the setting on the island and the island itself certainly took home the bragging rights.

The only problem is... I don't know if I cared about this book. which means I definitely didn't hate it, but I definitely didn't love it. I actually came to the reviews to look for reasons why I should love it, hoping there was something that somebody may have caught that I didn't.

I don't feel as though I wasted a credit, but if I had known I'd have this feeling prior to listening to it, I maybe would have reallocated it to a different book

Indifferent
