Resumen del Editor

When a body is discovered in a field in Iowa, the police uncover 14 additional corpses ranging from 20 years old to recent. The remains point to a serial killer with an MO the authorities have seen before - Ed Oliphant, a man who has been in prison for over 20 years...and is Special Agent Kaely Quinn's father. After several failed interview attempts to discover if Ed has been training someone to be a copycat killer, the police turn to Kaely in St. Louis.

Kaely promised herself she would never step foot in her hometown or set eyes on her father again. She's always refused to confront her past, but if she wants to prevent any more deaths, she must come face-to-face with the man she's hated for years.

As more bodies are discovered, Kaely races against time and her own personal turmoil to uncover the killer. Will this most personal case yet cost Kaely her identity and perhaps even her life?

What a fantastic God-inspired story

Brought up some very tough questions, like did Ed deserve to be saved, but the Awesome thing about God is that Jesus died once for ALL (Romans 6 v 10)

Great Christian fiction suspense!

My husband and I both enjoyed this book! Nancy Mehl writes superb Christian fiction. This story kept us guessing until the end.

Great story! Narrator was good also.

Loved it! Intriguing story. So pleasant to listen to a murder mystery/suspense book without all of the foul language other authors seem to think should be in it.

A Little Problematic

I looked forward to this latest installment of the Kaely Quinn series when I saw it came out. However, I feel like the series has gotten...I don't know..."too Christian"? The first book it was sprinkled in which is fine. The second book had more of it in it, which was fine as well. But this book includes beliefs around therapy and psychopathy that I find to be very problematic.

I don't think this is a spoiler but at one point the main character is advised to see a therapist for her issues and she is very against it because she thinks her faith will help her more than a therapist. I'm sorry but if you're depressed or have a mental illness like schizophrenia then "trusting in God" is not going to magically "cure" you. Yes it is a great accompaniment to talk therapy and psychiatric help but it's not going to make the chemicals in your brain suddenly be just right.

Kaely doesn't even accept therapy until she talks to a Christian therapist and only wants to see another therapist if they're Christian like that will somehow make them better than regular therapists. As someone who goes to therapy and has greatly benefited from it, I just find the beliefs in this book to be off. She even says, at one point in the book, that if her faith in God was strong enough then she wouldn't need to go see a doctor for physical ailments. What?! That kind of thinking is toxic. Having faith in a God and believing in a higher being is all well and good but if it is going to prevent you from getting the medical attention you really need then it's hurting you more than helping you. That is fact. If your leg got cut off and you started bleeding out, all the praying in the world isn't going to magically stem the flow of blood and save you.

This would have been a good book if it didn't promote such ridiculous ideas that are harmful and may result in someone not seeking the help they really need. Therapy is good. It doesn't go against your religion to seek help from others. A therapist's worth is not measured by how religious they are. Not once in my therapy did my therapist say things like "don't believe in God" or "it's ok to sin". Is that what they think non-Christian therapists say?? Idiotic....it's very ignorant to believe that and to promote it.

Sorry this review was so long. Read the first two books in this series and skip this one if you also believe that therapy and psychiatric help are beneficial and shouldn't be avoided because of religious beliefs.

Also, the narrator did a great job.

had to return it

I couldn't make it through the first 2 chapters. The first books in the series were just OK but I thought I would finish it. Nope. The FBI agent is so wimpy and introspective, I kind of wanted something bad to happen to her so she would toughen up. and WAY too god-y for me, worse than the others in that regard. Sure, she has faith, whoop-di-do. Get on with the story. Do people really care if a fictional character has so much faith she has to pray about iisht? No thanks.

More of a Christian book than the others

More of a christian book about forgiveness and redemption with the story being second to the message. Which is fine but not what I was looking for. I still find Kaely to be an interesting character but her reliance on God is suspect and not my cup of tea. Traci Odom does a great job as always.

Redundant regarding religion.

Too much about praying, the scriptures, and God. The story would have been good if religion was not the prominent theme.
