Over emphasis on describing the music

I didn't find this biography to be as inspiring as I had hoped it would be. The author tries so hard to put the essence of Brubeck‘s musicianship and music performances into words. The struggles and accomplishments of Brubeck get lost as a result. Too much emphasis on describing the music versus discussing the musician for my taste.

A Life of Great Music

Thoroughly enjoyed the book. Dave Brubeck is truly one of a kind. Dont let this one pass you by.

Disappointing, disjointed, dull

The overdone, overwhelming, and tiring descriptions, almost song by song-- sing-songy -- is not what I consider true biography. Maybe my expectations were too high in wanting to know more about Dave Brubeck, not the author's capacity to coin cute and catchy phrasing. A third of the way through I found myself searching Audible for another Brubeck biography, and was further disappointed to discover that this one is all there was. I had to Take 5, In My Own Sweet Way, from this Strange Meadowlark.
