What on earth is happening on the outskirts of Brighton? What Mr Darcy sees and hears, added to what Lady Polly observes through her telescope, persuades him that he must return to Brighton. Above all else, it is because Miss Elizabeth Bennet is residing there for the summer. His cousin Anne has teamed up with Lydia Bennet and is likely to cause double trouble. Lady Catherine, who is recovering from apoplexy and can barely speak, writes notes demanding her nephew propose marriage to her daughter Anne. Wickham appears to be in pursuit of Elizabeth, who is also receiving a great deal of attention from one of Lady Polly’s very eligible twin sons.
Who is the soldier skulking suspiciously at the rear of the houses taken by Mr Gardiner and Lady Catherine? Mr Darcy is convinced it is Wickham up to his old tricks.
Then there’s the annoying, quite vicious seagull who enjoys nothing more that attacking Pom, Lady Polly’s much-loved poodle. Each morning and evening Elizabeth walks him along Brighton’s shore.
How will it all end? Will Mr Darcy discover exactly what is going on and win Elizabeth’s heart? Will Elizabeth see a different Mr Darcy from the man she had unwaveringly thought was proud and disagreeable?
This is a gentle amusing story with just a little angst. The prologue contains a short description of Lady Catherine suffering an attack of apoplexy.
