A BACKSLIDING HEART

The Bible gives a stern warning to Christians against falling back into sin. The goal of our salvation is to be changed into the image of our Lord Jesus Christ. So, why does the church look and act so worldly?

We used to hear years ago about people who were backslidden and out of fellowship with God and the body of Christ. We don’t hear much about it anymore. Have we grown so accustomed to sin that it is no longer an issue? Have we misused the phrase “you are just judging” so much that we are no longer our brother’s keeper? Are there things we never got over before getting saved that now have a stronghold in our lives?

We need to revisit how the sin of “backsliding” affects us individually and corporately. What does backsliding mean? It is someone sliding back from their closeness to Christ and walking away from their first love. We know if we repent and return to the Lord, He is faithful to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We patiently await the day when we cast off this temporal body, which is perishing, and put on the eternal glorified body, and live forever in His presence. Until then, we will walk victorious without A Backsliding Heart.
