I ended up skipping book 2 to listen to this one. Thankfully, the author does a great job of filling in the pertinent details from the last 2 books so even a new reader won't be lost. This story was just as entertaining as the first and the narrator did a good job. Better, in fact, than the first book. Definitely worth checking out if you like a good fantasy story.

Thrilling story

As always the narrator performs excellently. Unfortunately due to several high-speed conversations between family members of the same gender and similar temperament, even the skills of this very skilled and versatile narrator are not enough to keep the differentiation clear and distinct.
Although this story is in-depth enough and engaging enough to stand on its own, I made a realization as I listened that both saddened and irritated me. One of the supporting characters that seems to play an ongoing role in the series, looks to be very underdeveloped in this story. Fortunately for me, I had already ready a considerable length into one of this author's other series (Elemental) in which this character, his magic, his family, and his world are more thoroughly explained as well as how certain styles of magic work. This information would be extremely useful in understanding many elements of This story.

As with the other two parts of the series, the imagery and the world created are rich and colourful, and the obstacles Nathan and his brother have to overcome let us get to know them even better - we find out more and more about their personalities and their pasts with every book in the series. This time we also get a closer look at Bast's past - and there's a big surprise waiting there both for Nathan and us:)
The only small fault of this installment of Nathan's adventures is that some descriptive/explanatory parts of the book feel a bit lengthy, but as the information is necessary for our understanding of what and why is going on, I can forgive that:) However, these parts slow the pace of the main plotline from time to time...
As for the narration by Mr Bennett, it's very good, as with the first two parts, although it felt a bit slow this time - but I sped it to 1.25 and then it sounded better. Generally, he's very good at dialogues and voicing particular characters, a bit slow in narrative parts. But overall I liked this interpretation very much.

The story is SO GOOD in this book. Lots of twists you really don’t see coming and the narrator has a solid rhythm that suits this book well. If you’ve read the first two, they will pale in comparison to this one!

A jump later and you will find the brothers embroiled in a situation that only escalates their end of the world issues. One thing that I really appreciated here is that even thought the pair are caught up in an apocalypic scenerio the book still stays light and fluffy for most of te time, not that it isn' serious, it is just that this could become really dark if not for Oxford's wise choice to let some steam out of the pipes before they blew everything to hell. Naturally, this plays right into Bennett's court. He has really nailed the characters and tone of this series since the beginning, and if you have listened to him anywhere else, you know that one of his fortes is lighthearted goofiness at its finest. So, taking some of the dark and dread that is hanging over the brother's heads is something he can do effortlessly. I have no doubt that you will enjoy this book, and the entire series if you haven't started it at the beginning.
This is listed as the final book in the series, and I think that it does its job and settles things nicely, while leaving an opportunity to come back if Oxford wanted to do so. The series is fun, and I adore trilogies, as they allow a full stroy to be told and not kill a series off with a slow death. So, don't be put off by the final book stuff. The writing and characterization is excellent and the narration couldn't be better unless they used the voice of Metatron himself. Have fun and please pick this book up! Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. Getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

The Writer of Syndrial spells DOOM

The pace and storytelling method of this book follow the previous. It's not too serious with a splash of snark and silly encounters (quite a contrast to the end of a world plot that the story revolves around) and I think that is what makes this an entertaining read/listen, much like the first two books. I think what I enjoyed most about this book is that we get to know a little bit more about the gods that have been introduced in the previous 2 books and see the two brothers grow a bit more.
Overall, If you enjoyed the first two books, you can't go wrong picking up this one too.
Narrator J. Scott Bennett (again!) performed wonderfully and I would definitely consider the presentation here a pleasant experience all around.
I am looking forward to reading/listening to more by Rain Oxford and J. Scott Bennett!
