Resumen del Editor

A complete and truly unique biography of Robert Smith and company, The Cure, chronicling their 40+ year history with hundreds of entries in A to Z fashion.

Definitive and deeply researched, Curepedia will surprise and inform fans everywhere as they await The Cure's highly anticipated next album release.

The Cure remain, 40 plus years into their career, one of the biggest rock bands in the world. With 12 studio albums, tours that pack stadiums all over the world—including their recent sold out series across North America in Spring/Summer 2023—they were the first alternative band to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in 2019 by Trent Reznor. Their influence is heard in bands as wide ranging as Twilight Sad to Interpol to My Chemical Romance.

Amidst the record-setting Shows of a Lost World Tour winding down, acclaimed music journalist Simon Price has crafted a first of its kind history of this band that will satisfy legion of fans eagerly awaiting The Cure’s new album. Curepedia is a career-spanning and in-depth biography of Robert Smith and company, chronicling their 40 plus year history with hundreds of entries organized in an A-to-Z fashion.

Curepedia is a full-scale look at the long list of members, current and past, unknown facts, tours, descriptions of every album, song, films, as well as entries on the image of the band, their influence, their style, and their enduring legacy. Celebrating one of the most enduring and beloved rock bands, Curepedia will be the perfect introduction for new fans, and a must-have for the obsessive as well.

Fans Be Patient

As a die hard Cure fan, I was a bit disappointed by this book. I understand it was a monumental task to gather all the bits and pieces related to The Cure for this project. But what I do notice as well is that they apparently didn’t have anybody fact checking the facts. At times the narrator says the inspiration for “Killing an Arab” was the book “The Stranger” by Albert Camus, (true) but in other entries they say it was “The Outsider” (false). We can also hear one of the narrators consistently pronounce the name David Bowie as David “Bauwee”, Robert would be appalled by this as David Bowie is perhaps his biggest musical hero. There is a segment around the letter “R” where the narrator’s voice has a wierd echo that makes it hard to understand what he’s saying. It gradually gets worse until you can’t understand a thing he’s saying. Fortunately, this only goes on for about 5 mins. and then it stops. Another of the narrators keeps pronouncing the word “macho” as “makko”. Who is this man? Has he never heard that word before? He sounds like he’s 40 yrs old at the very least! At one point they say that Robert Smith appeared in the show “The Mighty Boosh” (he never was on that show). They later say that he was MENTIONED in the program which is true, but like I said he never APPEARED on the show. It’s little things like that which make me not want to trust a lot of the other facts they say here. They should’ve had real Cure fans listen to this audio to fact check it and for quality check. Anyway, I enjoyed hearing about a lot of the things I already knew with a nugget or two of new info here and there. If you’re not a hard core Cure fan you’ll thoroughly enjoy it, just take their facts with a grain of salt
because Jesus!
