What happens when you find love, but life keeps getting in the way?

When she first meets Adam, Coralie is new to London and feeling adrift. But Adam is clever, witty, and (he insists) a quarter inch taller than the average male. His charming four-year-old daughter only adds to his appeal.

But ten years on, something important is missing from the life Coralie and Adam (though let’s face it, mostly Coralie) have built. Or maybe, having gained everything she dreamed of, Coralie has lost something else she once had: herself.

Set against an eventful decade, Consider Yourself Kissed puts the subjects of love and family on a grand stage, showing how the intimate dramas in our homes inescapably compete for energy and attention with the shared public dramas of our times.

It's a read that effortlessly balances sweetness with bite, the public with the personal, and humor with heart.

At least 95% of this book was exceptionally dark. The subject of depression is heavy and the lead approached her life from a place of negativity. There are a few parts with clever and interesting dialog, but the majority of the book made me feel that her life was completely dismal. The last 2% gives the reader some sort of completion and “happy ending”, but you have to get through some very dark subject matter

I had anticipated a more humorous storyline, given the reviews I had read

Enjoyable storyline and characters. Just the right amount of humor and seriousness. Engaging character. I enjoyed it. This is my first listen for this author. I like her style.

Narration was enjoyable. Easy to listen to and made the book wonderful to listen to.

Do not let the bright colors and word “kissed” on the title fool you. You are NOT in for a rom-com. However, you are in for a revealing and poignant take on what it’s like to be an elder-Millennial mother, existing through one global crisis after another while still trying to maintain some sense of self worth and optimism. Jessica Stanley has created a character who is simultaneously seen and invisible, needed and unnecessary. It’s not an emotionally easy read, but it may make YOU feel seen and necessary.

Surprising and achingly relatable.

Jessica stanley makes the ordinary compelling. I was routing for Coralie as her life unfolded. Great characterization throughout. Even her appealing father

Great read

If you enjoy reading about a woman who undervalues herself and allows everyone else to undervalue her (for the entire book), this book is for you. And, the author thinks young children in England are not familiar with Winnie the Pooh. Ridiculous!

Waste of time
