Resumen del Editor

A 34-year-old man fighting for his life in the intensive care unit is on an artificial respirator for over a month. Could it be that his chance of getting off the respirator is not how much his nurses know, but rather how much they care?

A 75-year-old woman is heroically saved by a major trauma center, only to be discharged and fatally struck by a car while walking home from the hospital. Could a lack of compassion from the hospital staff have been a factor in her death?

Compelling new research shows that health care is in the midst of a compassion crisis. But the pivotal question is this: Does compassion really matter?

In Compassionomics: The Revolutionary Scientific Evidence That Caring Makes a Difference, physician scientists Stephen Trzeciak and Anthony Mazzarelli uncover the eye-opening data that compassion could be a wonder drug for the 21st century.

Now, for the first time ever, a rigorous review of the science - coupled with captivating stories from the front lines of medicine - demonstrates that human connection in health care matters in astonishing ways. Never before has all the evidence been synthesized together in one place.

You will see compelling evidence that:

  • Compassion has vast benefits for patients across a wide variety of conditions
  • Missed opportunities for compassion can have devastating health effects
  • Compassion can help reverse the cost crisis in health care
  • Compassion can be an antidote for burnout among health care providers
  • Forty seconds of compassion can save a life

After seeing all the evidence, the answer is crystal clear: Compassion matters...in not only meaningful, but measurable ways.

Incredible research and insights!!!

this book should win a Pulitzer prize or other distinguished & meaningful literary non fiction award.
truly this might be the one important element for all of humanity to be required to understand and apply..
I suggest listening to this book many times over and taking notes.
Finally a really meaningful work on compassion and the critical essence it addresses.

A must read for care professionals

This book is a must read for anyone who works as a care or service provider of any kind. I am not a medical professional myself, so at times the science see parts of why compassion is important were more than I needed, but the overall story the book tells is so important. I will be recommending this book often!

Compassion makes a difference

Great book on the value of compassion in medicine (and life in general). I can only hope with all of the science supporting this concept that healthcare providers will one day truly understand the importance of compassion in the delivery of their care.

Excellent book on compassion

An excellent book written by two physicians who have researched and fully realized the potential and value of compassion in healthcare. The power of compassion is unmistakable and readily available to all people who engage in it’s practice (giver and receiver). What the Buddhist monks have known all along, we are finally starting to understand, learn and hopefully apply in healthcare as well as all other walks of life.

Good message, decent content.

I think the message is true and useful. Some of the research is pretty compelling, whereas a lot of it is probably just correlation. The narration should probably have been fixed. She mispronounced a lot of words.
