Resumen del Editor

Torn between two cultures...allegiance to two families...a child in the middle

Nicole Nelson and Ahmed Masud are a dynamic, highly successful Philadelphia couple. They are partners in a thriving plastic surgery practice, are very much in love, and they adore their young son, Alex. But cracks are beginning to appear in their fairy-tale life: lingering post-9/11 prejudice against Arab men, accumulating malpractice lawsuits for Ahmed, and most recently, pressure from Ahmed's wealthy family in Cairo for him to return to Egypt - permanently - with his son.

The Masud family pressure becomes a demand as the Hosni Mubarak regime is seriously threatened by protestors in Egypt. Ahmed's family owes their control of the Egyptian cotton empire directly to Mubarak cronyism. If Mubarak goes down, the Masuds will surely lose their wealth, maybe even their lives. They need Ahmed back in Egypt to implement their plan to move their fortune and family out of Egypt and into South America.

Ahmed must make a decision - stay with Nicole in America or obey his father. And what about their son?

Tragic consequences, which Ahmed could have never foreseen, propel both the Masud family and the Nelson family on a path toward unspeakable tragedy.

Not bad

Very interesting story of a man torn between the life he's made in america with his wife and son, and his loyalties to his family in cairo. This will keep your interest from the first page to the last.

I enjoyed listening to the narrator, the voices used were a plus for the story

I recieved a copy of this audible free at my request and am happy to leave my review

Not a believable thriller.

This book could have been so much more but it did not live up to its potential.

The characters were not developed enough and the entire story did not have enough detail to appear real.

The narrator did a good job with the material but could not save this story.

Wished For a Different Ending

I really enjoyed listening to this book for so many reasons.....first, the family dynamics that are within certain cultures and how they can be so much different than my own......second, an individual torn within himself to try to please his birth family vs betraying his wife and child........third, how greed can over take and ruin lives, including the one who was greedy.

Basil Sands was phenomenal! So many voices and so much talent....he made is so easy to follow who each character was and to be honest, made the story better and I have an extra star simply because of his efforts.

Interesting Viewpoint- Page Turner

I received an audible copy of this book to review.

This was a great listen. I enjoyed both the storyline and the narrator. Will be looking for more from the author.

At first I wasn't sure- thinking that it was far too stereotypical Muslim male dominant characterizations, but the more I listened, the more I realized that it was not just showing the stereotype, but a broader view- a more individualized view. The suspense builds, just when you think they have finally found the boy- just missed him...

Worth the time.

Excellent

Gussin delivers a great story. The story kept me engaged throughout the book. This is the first book I have listened to narrated by Basil Sands and he does an outstanding job. Well done both of you!!
