Resumen del Editor

When I wrote Code Name Mel’s Choice, GMJ 25, I was asked by many readers about the character, Sir Dennis, as we call him, a legendary Rhodesian Air Force pilot that turned out to be a Soviet GRU (Russian Military Intelligence) penetration agent. A man that took the identity of a long-deceased RAF pilot and became a legend. After Angelique captured him, he was handed over to MI6 for questioning. It was either that or summary execution. In this book, we deal with Sir Dennis further - his subsequent “defection” from MI6 to DGSE, the French Spy Agency. However, you cannot just leave the Great Game, it takes two roubles to get out and only one rouble to get in. For Sir Dennis to leave and do a “Penkovsky” – that is to disappear forever, he must pay his two roubles by flying a final combat mission with Angelique Dawson against his former adopted country. He is in no way unwilling to help out but of course, cannot be trusted completely, no human source is, and a known defector not at all. His mere presence worries Foxtrot but Angelique is adamant. Like with all other GMJ Books, we researched a wide range of topics and brought all together in the story. First, we looked at Oleg Penkovsky, the Soviet Army colonel working for MI6 and the character upon which Tom Clancy based his book, Cardinal of the Kremlin, on. Sadly, the truth about Penkovsky is not what the West thinks. We don’t believe that he was for real and we discuss his case in detail to explain our views. That in itself changes the accepted version of the Cuban Missile Crisis to something more sinister, Mr Kennedy got played like a badly strung violin by Soviet Intelligence. Then we discovered that the Top Gun / Red Flag exercises - those where Western fighter pilots take the Aggressor Squadrons simulating Warsaw Pact flyers on - falsified their effectiveness ratings, weapon systems and kill ratio to reflect better scores for the US aircraft. That is high treason. The aviator flying against real opponents would have been shot down. It is immoral behaviour and the subsequent whitewash is described in this book. In the background, Foxtrot, with the help of legendary Special Forces officer, Geelslang Peter Ndebele, must kill a BBC journalist. That assassination too is part of the horse trading, his death is part of the price for Sir Dennis’s freedom and one that they will gladly pay. The assassination takes the form of a false flag operation, something of a sub-Saharan Africa speciality that they excel in. Description: Spymaster extraordinaire, Angelique Dawson and her team are in northern Botswana and working closely with MI6. She has a mission to fly with a twin seat Northrop F-5T fighter jet to destroy a convoy of vehicles inside Zimbabwe. The front seat pilot is Sir Dennis, who was last seen in Code Name Mel’s Choice, a legendary former Rhodesian Air Force fighter pilot, then revealed as a former Soviet GRU officer and handed over to MI6. He is helping Angelique in order to escape from MI6. He wishes to defect to France. For Sir Dennis to leave and do a “Penkovsky” – that is to disappear, he must pay the price by flying this dangerous mission with Angelique. They will almost certainly clash with enemy MiG-21s. Angelique’s star agent and later husband, Geoffrey Foxtrot and his friend, legendary Special Forces officer, Geelslang Peter Ndebele, are also busy. They must assassinate a BBC journalist, shooting him from inside Zimbabwe towards Botswana with a 20mm Truvelo rifle. They have one shot at 3,500 yards, into the sun, and then have to escape, a classic false flag operation. They then get Sir John, Foxtrot’s mortal enemy, in their sights... If you wish to read about Covert and Special Forces Operations in sub-Saharan Africa, the GMJ Books are the place to start. You will learn about covert operations, Special Forces techniques and military history not known outside the select few. Code Name Jen is the 32nd book of the popular GMJ Series.
