Lynn Dayton is a spectacular writer and this is his very best work.

The absolute best of the Cold War spy genre. Start at the beginning and go all the way to the end. An addictive page turning journey through one man’s life in the global events that surround it.

Great series

Just finishing the ten book Samson series, I will miss all the characters. Each one I can picture perfectly in my mind. The weaving of the story through all the books, read like one great cinematic journey. Don’t forget Winter, it’s a great back story and after listening to all, I might go back to listen to it again. The narration is perfect.

Sorry the series is over

With the most capable narrator in my experience, Lailey does greqt credit to the writing of the best writer of this genre I have enjoyed, and my list is long. His exposition of character development, his mastery of wit and pithy aphorisms are worth remembering. I have read Furst, LeCarre', Ambler and many others and Deighton is their equal , if not their better. The reader/listener should not omit listening to the authors explication which follows each episode, the most important being that which follows CHARITY

Culmination

I don’t know why exactly I find such a profound sense of connection to the Bernard Samson character. I suppose with nine installments there is ample time for character development. This last volume involves so much explication of this character’s depth and reveals so much of the mysteries he has struggled with, and vindicates his integrity, that it brings much satisfaction. Except it leaves me (desperately?) wishing Mr. Deighton had lived longer and written more.
