Resumen del Editor

A mesmerizing mix of Charles Bukowski, Hunter S. Thompson, and Philip K. Dick, Chameleo is a true account of what happened in a seedy Southern California town when an enthusiastic and unrepentant heroin addict named Dion Fuller sheltered a US marine who'd stolen night vision goggles, and perhaps a few top secret files, from a nearby military base. Dion found himself arrested (under the ostensible auspices of The Patriot Act) for conspiring with international terrorists to smuggle top-secret military equipment out of Camp Pendleton. The fact that Dion had absolutely nothing to do with international terrorists, smuggling, top-secret military equipment, or Camp Pendleton didn't seem to bother the military. He was released from jail after a six day long Abu Ghraib-style interrogation. Subsequently he believed himself under intense government scrutiny and, he suspected, the subject of bizarre experimentation involving "cloaking" - electro-optical camouflage so extreme it renders observers practically invisible from a distance of some meters - by the Department of Homeland Security. Hallucination? Perhaps - except Robert Guffey, an English teacher and Dion's friend, tracked down and interviewed one of the scientists behind the project, codenamed Chameleo, an experimental technology that appears to have been stolen by the US Department of Defense and deployed on American soil. More shocking still, Guffey discovered that the DoD has been experimenting with its newest technologies on a number of American citizens. A condensed version of this story was the cover feature of Fortean Times magazine (September 2013).

Interesting.. but ..meh

Interesting tale.. I think a lot of things could have been over blown by a Heroine/Meth addict looking for money. That being said, it's still interesting. Not as interesting as skin walker. nor are some of the characters as reliable.. obviously, hence the heroine..

Great premise

The premise and focus of the story were both great. However, some chapters were very stop and go.

Dialogue was “realistic” but at points this was to its detriment.

First read by this author - Two thumbs Up

Enjoyed the voice and character of the narrator. Fast paced story kept my attention throughout. Interesting and there is a lot of references to other writings and authors I hadn’t been aware of - first book I’ve read by this author however I will definitely explore other titles.

Funny and interesting at the same time.

It took me a minute to really figure out what was going on. But once it got rolling I understood. Being that I was in the Air Force for 6 years as a crew chief for the F-16C and F-117. I remember when they would so night flying and uses the night vision headsets. The Aveonics Technicans would download from the night vision headsets everything the pilots saw on each mission(sorte). It actually had a plug in port similar to a USB port. And they would download it to a handheld iPad thing. So I actually do believe most of this story. I bet there was some very sensitive information on one of the many headset that marine stole from the base and that is the main reason they put agents on him so hard. Not really for the hardware for say, it was the software stored in some of those sets. Because it's not uncommon for them pilots to see UFO's and things of that nature. And of course the government don't want the public to see any of that stuff. I've had many pilots tell me they saw unexplained stuff after a mission. But of course they told me all off the record during small talk while I was getting them either on the Jet or off.

good story but hard to listen to in the 1st person

The story and sumject mater is very good and interesting how ever it is told in the first person. you get tired of hearing "Bob said "bla bla blah," and Sally said this "bla bla blah, " and Bob said this"bla bla blah, and so on. So you get the point.

great story with amazing perspective

everything the book promised and more. this story told by a different author could have been a disaster. major fan "Mr. Big" Robert Guffey from now on. However the performance was not what I was hoping and kept me from enjoying it atvthe beginning. I grew to like it by the end .

Great story, too much cursing.

I understand they are trying to convey events and the culture exactly as it happened, but by keeping all the swear words in it makes it unlistenable. I have a whole list of people I want to share the book with but sadly cannot because of how much it lowered the books quality and message.

Good read but expecting more.

I liked the concept, subject matter, and the black ops aspects of the story. I did not like how the majority of the book was just a written down conversation. It could have been done better and in a more entertaining way.

Impressively Bizarre

Imagine a borderline paranoid journalist and a meth addict team up to write a book about a government investigation into said meth addict who seems to have inadvertently ended up in a national security situation. Now imagine you have no way of determining what is real, what is drug addled hallucinations, and what is coincidence. This is Chameleo by Robert Guffey.
